And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests.  ~I Peter 2:5

What!?

Who...me?  ..You?  ...Us?!

Living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple...  ...his holy priests. (I Peter 2:5)

Nah.  Couldn't be.

We're not good enough.
Definitely not holy enough to be living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple.
We're not worthy to be his holy priests.
Nah.  We couldn't be.

And yet--God says that we are.
But not because of our own merits...it's all because of Jesus Christ.

Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God.  ~I Peter 2:5

What's mediation?

Jesus intervened for us.
Jesus pled-our-(sinful) case before God, and got us off the hook--because of His holiness, which He used as mediation for our unholiness.
Jesus mediated for us.  He went-in-the-middle of our sin, and God's complete purity, and Jesus mediated.
Jesus bridged the (no other way around it) sinful gap between us and God.

And because of Christ...(Through the mediation of Jesus Christ) we can offer spiritual sacrifices that please God (I Peter 2:5).

It's a super-natural solution to our human-condition of sin...and the mediation of Jesus Christ allows us to get-in-the-game for God.

Jesus Christ did His part over 2000 years ago when He died on a cross at Calvary and then left an empty tomb three days later.
Today it's our turn.

You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor.

(5) And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests.  ~I Peter 2:4-5

Apparently--Yah, it could be.

We're not good enough, but through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God.

We're definitely not holy enough to be living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple, but Jeuss Christ is...and through His mediation...we are.

We're not worthy to be his holy priests, but through the mediation of Jesus Christ, we have become worthy.

Yes--through the mediation of Jesus Christit could be, and it is: You are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests (I Peter 2:5).

We are grateful for a seventeen-year-old young lady who accepted Christ into her heart last year and who started a women's Bible study this week for high school girls.

And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests. Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God.  ~I Peter 2:5

We are excited to kick off Christian fellowship groups in three of our public school district buildings this week.  Seeking students and supportive staff will mesh because of the living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple (Peter 2:5).

What’s more, you are his holy priests.  ~I Peter 2:5

An elementary school in Florida had a Christian organization remove themselves from serving afterschool Bible lessons this year, but my sister's local church stepped-in and stepped-up to provide instruction, people, and living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple (Peter 2:5).

What’s more, you are his holy priests.  ~I Peter 2:5

A first-time college-freshman friend of our son's, who is attending one of the largest public colleges in the United States had living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple reach out to him, and these current university students involved in campus ministries have gotten the new Christian student plugged-in and amped-up for Jesus.  In a sea of students, God's living stones are seeking out other living stones and God is building (both!) into his spiritual temple (Peter 2:5).

A long-time friend of our daughter's just invited our family to her baptism in a couple weeks!  God is very active in using His living stones to influence and affect and change-the-lives of more living stones.  And all of us living stones (old and new) together are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple (Peter 2:5).

What’s more, you are his holy priests.  ~I Peter 2:5

(Public/Private/Home) School has started for the year, and secular schools-of-thought are being stamped onto students in the public sector, but Christian worldviews and foundations are standing firm and woke-idealogies are not being swallowed whole by living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple (Peter 2:5).

What’s more, you are his holy priests.  ~I Peter 2:5

Apparently--Yah--it could be.

Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, we are good enough.  We are holy enough.  We are worthy enough to be his holy priests.

(6) As the Scriptures say, “I am placing a cornerstone in Jerusalem, chosen for great honor, and anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.”

(7) Yes, you who trust him recognize the honor God has given him. But for those who reject him, “The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.” (8) And, “He is the stone that makes people stumble, the rock that makes them fall.”

They stumble because they do not obey God’s word, and so they meet the fate that was planned for them.  But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

(10) “Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God’s people.  Once you received no mercy; now you have received God’s mercy."  ~2 Peter 2:4-9
