Corona Devo 2017

Our kids like to play soccer a lot.  And so we travel to watch them play soccer a lot.

The games are often on weekends, and if we are out of town, my husband always researches the area and finds a Bible-believing, God-centered church for us to worship at on Sunday mornings.

These are the commands, decrees and laws the Lord your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, (2) so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life. (3) Hear, Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised you.

(4) Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. (5) Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. (6) These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. (7) Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.  ~Deuteronomy 6:1-7

What a blessing to have a husband who loves the Lord and finds churches for us to attend when we are away from home.  We have been blessed to go to tiny churches and huge churches, and it is spiritually invigorating to get out of our routine (and comfort zone) and to worship with other believers in a new place.

Same Holy, Almighty God and Bible..new people, surroundings, and traditions-of-worship.

Then all of you can join together with one voice, giving praise and glory to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.  ~Romans 15:6

Sometimes it can feel as if we are alone or lonely in pursuing the Lord and His ways these days.  But we are not.  God's people are everywhere, we just have to go to church and find them.

I've been blessed to worship our Lord in churches across the United States, in other countries, and even at sea.  God's people are gathering and growing...in churches everywhere.

...that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, (11) and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.  ~Philippians 2:10-11

Wherever you are: attend a Bible-believing, God-centered church this week!

When our family is going to church...our family is inviting to church!  ("Therefore go and make disciples of all nations"...”  ~Matthew 28:19).  And on a number of out-of-town soccer Sundays, teammates and families have joined us in church.

One of our daughter's buddies on the team came with us a number of times in a number of cities, and I don't believe it was routine for her to attend a Bible-believing, God-centered church on Sunday mornings.  But she did with us.

The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.”

(30) Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked.

(31) “How can I,” he said, “unless someone explains it to me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.  ~Acts 8:29-31

What a blessing to bring friends closer to Christ!  And it is spiritually invigorating to get out of our routine (and comfort zone) and to worship with other Believers (and non-Believers) in a new place.

Same Holy, Almighty God and Bible..new people, surroundings, and traditions-of-worship.

You were shown these things so that you might know that the Lord is God; besides him there is no other... (39) Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other.  ~Deuteronomy 4:35, 39

Wherever you are: attend a Bible-believing, God-centered church this week!

Fast forward about a year and a half.

The other day we received a Baptism invitation for our daughter's friend.

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (20) and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  ~Matthew 28:19-20

What a blessing to have a friend who now loves the Lord (and wants to make a public declaration of her commitment to Him!)...and who invited us to her Bible-believing, God-centered church for worship on Sunday morning.

And it was spiritually invigorating to get out of our routine (and comfort zone) and to worship with other believers in a new place.

Same Holy, Almighty God and Bible..new people, surroundings, and traditions-of-worship.

All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, Lord; they will bring glory to your name.  ~Psalm 86:9

Wherever you are: attend a Bible-believing, God-centered church this week!

This was such a neat life-story to be a part of, but we must be clear: to God be all the glory.  Our walks-of-faith might place a brick in the path of someone on their way to Christ, but it is only God who makes our spiritual seed grow.

I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.
(7) So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. (8) The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. (9) For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.  ~I Corinthians 3:6-9

Wherever you are: attend a Bible-believing, God-centered church this week, and invite someone to come along!

And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.  ~Hebrews 10:25

God is at work in His houses of worship across the world.  Will we join Him there?  And will we invite others to join us there?

It could lead to friendships that last into eternity, thanks be to our Holy, Almighty God.

Blessings,

Sarah
