Find your "harp".

~~~
If we will just be willing to reach out and tune in to God...He always shows up.
There are lots of worldly "gods" to worship, and false-figments to throw ourselves at in times of desperation, but if we will seek the Lord...we will find the Lord (You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.  ~Jeremiah 29:13), and the rest is His story.
But we must seek.
Are we there yet? Are we sick and tired of being sick and tired? Has our spiritual "drought" gone on long enough?
There were three kings (Joram, Mesha, and Jehoshaphat) in the Old Testament  that came together to besiege the king of Moab.  They set out, but all three armies traveled along a roundabout route through the wilderness for seven days.   There was no water for the men or their animals.
(10) “What should we do?” the king of Israel cried out. “The Lord has brought the three of us here to let the king of Moab defeat us.”   ~2 Kings 3:9-10
They were sick and tired.  We would be too if we traveled....through the wilderness for seven days with no water for the men or their animals.
And the truth was--they had not been brought to where they were by the Lord's direction.  None of them had even inquired of the Lord, hence their wandering, hence their "drought", and hence their lack of direction.
Anybody?  Let's get honest with ourselves.  Sometimes we set out full-bore in a certain direction (of our own) and when the water-runs-dry and we experience a spiritual/physical/emotional drought--we (too) want to blame God (“What should we do?”... “The Lord has brought...us here to let ____defeat us.”  ~2 Kings 3:10).
We cannot "water" ourselves, but we serve a God who can sprinkle our souls and flood our fears with His living waters. Just ask. Just seek. Just knock. And we will find. (Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.   ~Matthew 7:7).
King Jehoshaphat asked.
But King Jehoshaphat of Judah asked, “Is there no prophet of the Lord with us? If there is, we can ask the Lord what to do through him.”   ~2 Kings 3:10
Good idea, Jehoshaphat!
If we are sick and tired of walking-in-the-wilderness or living-in-the-dryness-of-spiritual-drought, we can ask the Lord what to do through him.
They asked Elisha, a prophet who was known to have the Lord speak through him (2 Kings 3:12), but Elisha had to prepare his heart and soul for meeting with the Lord.
We absolutely do too.  And because Jesus invites us to have direct conversations (prayer) with Him (no prophet needed!)--then we can take a few notes from Elisha.
Whether we're spiritually-strained or overflowing-with-joy we must set our heart's stage for meeting with God.  Elisha needed a harp (...bring me someone who can play the harp.  ~2 Kings 3:15).
We might need silence. (I do).  We may need to remove ourselves (or at least our minds) from distraction.  (I do.)  We may need sunrise, we may need music, we may need ____ (you-name-what-you-need-to get quiet and humble before the Lord)--but whatever works, bring it, so that we can meet with the Lord.
That one-on-one time is how our droughts are drenched and our spiritual thirsts are quenched.
Elisha knew what it took for him to connect with the Lord, and it worked:
While the harp was being played, the power of the Lord came upon Elisha, (16) and he said, “This is what the Lord says: This dry valley will be filled with pools of water! (17) You will see neither wind nor rain, says the Lord, but this valley will be filled with water. You will have plenty for yourselves and your cattle and other animals. (18) But this is only a simple thing for the Lord, for he will make you victorious over the army of Moab! (19) You will conquer the best of their towns, even the fortified ones...”
(20) The next day at about the time when the morning sacrifice was offered, water suddenly appeared! It was flowing from the direction of Edom, and soon there was water everywhere.   ~2 Kings 3:15-20
Are we there yet? Are we sick and tired of being sick and tired? Has our spiritual "drought" gone on long enough?
He is here. There will be dry spaces in our faith, but God is not absent.
In His time, and in His tailored-ways, He will reveal Himself to us in undeniable and soul-refreshing ways (But this is only a simple thing for the Lord... ~2 Kings 3:18)...but we must prepare our hearts to seek (and hear from) Him.
Find your "harp" today, and let's situate ourselves to ask and "hear" from the Lord.
Blessings,
