Lord, we know (by Your Word) that we must be still before you: Be still and know that I am God.  ~Psalm 46:10.

Lord, we know that you often do not present yourself in the excitement, the noise, or in the rumble:

“Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” the Lord told him. And as Elijah stood there, the Lord passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. (12) And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper. (13) When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave.  And a voice said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”  ~I Kings 19:11-13)

Lord, there are many times (most?) when our stillness and submission are required before we can commune with You...before we can hear Your (often still-small) voice.  We tend to think of You as quiet, tender, still, and soft.

But...You are the Lord!

If we have stuffed You into a quiet cubby hole of our lives, only to be brought out when it's convenient and quiet...

If we have decided that Your Message only comes to us in muffled tones or search-for-it Scriptures...

We are mistaken about Who You are and about the sound and the power of Your voice. You are worthy of honor and your voice is powerful, Lord.  May we honor You and the strength of Your voice and power today.

Psalm 29 ~ A psalm of David.

(1) Honor the Lord, you mighty oneshonor the Lord for his glory and strength.

(2) Honor the Lord for the glory of his name.  Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.

(3) The voice of the Lord echoes above the sea.  The God of glory thunders.  The Lord thunders over the mighty sea.

(4) The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic.

(5) The voice of the Lord splits the mighty cedars; the Lord shatters the cedars of Lebanon.

(7) The voice of the Lord strikes with bolts of lightning.

(8) The voice of the Lord makes the barren wilderness quake; the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.

(9) The voice of the Lord twists mighty oaks and strips the forests bare.

In his Temple everyone shouts, “Glory!”

(10) The Lord rules over the floodwaters.  The Lord reigns as king forever.  (11) The Lord gives his people strength.  The Lord blesses them with peace.  ~Psalm 29:1-5, 7-11

The power of our Lord and His voice are undeniable, and certainly worth realizing, acknowledging, and standing in awe of.

In his Temple everyone shouts, “Glory!”    ~Psalm 29:9

We shout "Glory!" you You today, Lord!  We realize the power of Your Word and Your voice over our lives and our world...and everyone shouts, “Glory!”

At times you meet us in the silence, Father, and at others...You shatter the silence with Your voice!

Blessings,

sarah
