I was in a daze driving home today...  Tired.  Ho-hum.  Cold.
Winter in Ohio can be numbing, and I don't just mean in temperature.

But then I saw something that softened my heart and forced me to realize that I have a choice in my perspective today.

It was 27 degrees out, and yet I drove past a (smiling) dog with his head out the window of a car, and he was having the time of his life.

The temperature was the same for both that dog and me.  The month and time of day were too.  But he was living life and living his best life, right here and right now.

What's my problem?

The realities surrounding our days and lives are what they are.  What are we waiting for, in terms of deciding to enjoy them?

What do workers gain from their toil? (10) I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race. (11) He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

(12) I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. (13) That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God.  ~Ecclesiastes 3:9-13

We can't change the weather, our diagnosis, our people, or many things that are a part of our routine today...but we can change our heart.

I wonder how many people catch a glimpse of us and think that we just bit into a lemon?

If we are living today as a sourpuss, let's stick our head out the car window and feel the wind in our face.

A glad heart makes a happy face; a broken heart crushes the spirit.  (14) A wise person is hungry for knowledge, while the fool feeds on trash.  (15) For the despondent, every day brings trouble; for the happy heart, life is a continual feast.  ~Proverbs 15:13-15

Of course we must have a source for the sunshine that might brighten our hearts and change our perspective today...but we do.

God allowed His Son to shine into our hearts and lives when Jesus went to the cross for us.  When we accept Him into our heart, then God's light and love burn brightly within us.

Or...have we forgotten?  Are we in a daze?  Tired?  Ho-hum in our spiritual walk?

Then...that's what the Bible is here for!  If we will delight in the law of the Lord today, then we will be blessedMeditating on his law is like sticking our heads out the car window.  It's exhilarating!  We will be blessed.

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, (2) but whose delight is in the law of the Lordand who meditates on his law day and night.  ~Psalm 1:1-2

We each have a choice today.  Life is not easy, and for some of us, today will be an all-uphill climb.  But allow God's Word to soften our heart today and force us to realize that we have a choice in our perspective.

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!  ~Philippians 4:4
