Happy Father's Day. What does this mean?  What makes  a father happy  or to have cause for joy  on any day, or... today ? The father of godly children has cause for joy. What a pleasure to have children who are wise.  ~Proverbs 23:24  We all have a father... a dad .   Some  man begot us and was the reason we are here today.  Happy Father's Day to him today, whether present or passed.  And if  the father of godly children has cause for joy ...have-we/did-we/ are-we bringing our earthly father joy ?   Did-he or does -he experience pleasure because we  are children who are wise ? It's a bit of a loaded question, and one that can stir up a few (yesterday) regrets in answering.   ( I'm sorry, Dad .)    But perhaps reviewing and reflecting on  Proverbs 23:24 can make us a more godly child   (at any age) to our dads  today. Sometimes I can feel myself drifting ...can you?   Drifting ...toward sin.   Drifting ... toward evil ,  sometimes  in thought, but sometimes in actual action. Don’t let me drift toward evil  today, Lord. Sometimes we digress.  We forget the whole truth of God and we settle for a sliver.  Forgive us, Father. Don’t let me take part in acts of wickedness  today, Lord. Psalm 141 (1) O Lord, I am calling to you. Please hurry!  Listen when I cry to you for help!  (2) Accept my prayer as incense offered to you, and my upraised hands as an evening offering. I haven't watched a horror movie since high school, and even that one time was just a bad decision at a girls sleepover.   I cover my eyes (and sometimes my ears!) during gory scenes (real or fictional), and in real life I do not like the sight of blood and I've been known to get light headed or even faint at the sight of it.  I'll admit it: I often avoid unpleasant things.  I would prefer not to put myself in the (uncomfortable) position of dealing with things that I do not feel comfortable with...unless it's necessary.   For instance, as a mom, if there is vomit, blood, or other unpleasantries coming from one of my children...I am here to help.  Cleaning, comforting, whatever-is-needed in that moment--I will be present and even pleasant.   But otherwise...I'd rather avoid the unpleasant things of life if I can help it.   And today, I'd rather avoid Revelation Chapter 13 of the Bible, for my comfort and yours. But , for my Bib...

God is moving today. God is doing  today.   God is in-motion  today. God  is springing into action from his holy dwelling today. God has an all-encompassing plan and God has a victorious plan...over you and me (His children) today.   He is (already) doing  it...whatever "it" is in each of our lives.   He ( the Lord !) is in  full  control.  And so, if God  is the One  springing into action from his holy dwelling today...then  what is our role today?   The Bible tells us. God's Word commands us.   And many of us are not going to like hearing what God says for us to "do" today (while He springs into action ). Guess what time (season/harvest) of the year it is?   It's rhubarb -season.   Rhubarb is possibly an acquired taste, and I would suggest that it is most definitely a hereditary taste.  As in...I had rhubarb recipes when I was little, and thus, I enjoy rhubarb recipes now that I am older.  Here's the thing about rhubarb though, while it is tasty  on its own...it is amazing  when partnered with strawberries.   They are just... better together. Rhubarb pie is good.   But strawberry-rhubarb pie?  Forget-about-it!   It's dee-licious! There is something about the chemistry of the rhubarb and strawberries together  that make them  even better  than either of them are while apart. Strawberry pie is good.   And rhubarb pie is good.  But strawberry-rhubarb pie?  ... In high school and college, I was on the track and field team, and one of the events that I enjoyed participating in was the 100 meter hurdles.   You start a race crouched down with your feet in "blocks", and then when the gun fires, you explode out to attack ten hurdles spaced-out along the straight-away.  In order to become better at the initial burst that begins a race, and to enhance stamina throughout the contest, we would regularly train by wearing a harness with elastic leads attached to it.  The athlete would attempt to (quickly) start, and then run robustly as far as they could...all the while having elastic ropes restraining them from moving or advancing freely.   We would do a few restrained starts, and then the harness would be released and we would do some (unfettered) starts from the blocks.
