Last week I met a member of my family that I never knew before!  She's kind, she loves Jesus, we have much in common...and I found out that she is my sister.

My sister-in-Christ.

What a spiritual shot-in-the-arm it is to realize all over again how big the family of God is, and to be introduced to another member.

  • ...so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.  ~Romans 12:5
  • But he replied to the man who told him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”  ~Matthew 12:48-50

Don't get me wrong, I love my genealogical family (and my in-law-side), and there are few joys held deeper in my heart than sharing the bond of faith-in-Christ with my direct relatives.  This is a special and intangible blessing.

But...have we met any "new" family members (in the faith) lately?

Why not?

There is a spiritual-adrenaline that comes from connecting with the family of God, and it is such an encouragement to be reminded of how big God's family is.

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. (35) By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”  ~John 13:34-35

In a hotel lobby, over 2,400 miles from my home, I was blessed to sit with my sister (in Christ!) and study about the armor of God.

  • What does it "look" like/roll-out-as/mean -- for you and me to "buckle the belt of truth around our waist" today?
  • How do we (can we) have the breastplate of righteousness in place today?
  • Are our feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace today?
  • Have we taken up the shield of faith, and what does that mean?
  • Are we wearing the helmet of salvation today?
Ask the Lord to open our eyes and experiences up to new members of our faith family, and He will.

Why don't we sit down in a hotel lobby/front porch/office cubicle/restaurant/car and connect with a brother or sister in Christ today?

Caution--it's a powerful and exciting experience, and it will cause your faith to flare up (in a great way).

Let's put on the full armor of God today and share it with someone.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.

(13) Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

(14) Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist,

with the breastplate of righteousness in place,

(15) and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.

(16) In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

(17) Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.  ~Ephesians 6:10, 13-17

God's Word is strength for our days.  God's Word in discussion and community with brothers and sisters in His family is strength and electric-energy for our days.

For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.  ~Matthew 18:20

  1. Sarah, you are a light! You are a beautiful woman working the great commission. I often pray that others see Jesus in us in the way we act and speak. You do that so well! I see Jesus in you, and you are a sister to those you meet. How blessed I am to be your sister in Christ and all of the women who have a heart for Jesus.
