There's a storm coming.

Some of us have a storm bearing down on us, and it's scary.  We don't know what the damage and effect will be like, but it sure seems/feels/appears as if destruction is imminent, and the front-end anxiety is eating us alive.

Some of our on-coming storms are weather-related.  "Hunker down", they say.  "Flee!", they say, and every "they" has different advice.

Some of us are facing health-related storms.  The cancer (for example) keeps going...and growing.  Or the scheduled-surgery looms.  Or the elusive diagnosis will not come, and so the struggle of our daily lack-of-answers slowly strangles us, and the storm rages on.

Some of us have financial storms brewing.  We know it.  We have seen the small indicators gain strength and force and become bigger gales.

Some of us have relational storms crackling with thunder and lightning.  The air won't clear, and the tension has infiltrated our relationship and our peace.  Something (or someone) has to give.

Some of us have spiritual tempests twirling in our heart and mind.  We can only run from God for so long, but we know that we are testing those time-limits.  Or...the hurt runs deep and so then does our resentment.  God desires us...but the distance has grown so long and large between us, that we don't have much desire for Him.

In one or more areas...for each and everyone of us: There's a storm coming.

 ~~~
Whether we know it or not: We need the Lord as the storm approaches, and certainly when the disturbance makes contact with us
Yes, Lord, we WILL dwell in the shelter of You, the Most High today.
Father, we will rest in the shadow of You, the Almighty.
(2) I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
(3) Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.
(4) He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart (Psalm 91:4).
Lord, we need You.  We see what is coming down the pike, and (worse-yet), we know there is much we don't know about what is coming down the pike.  Only You...ONLY You, can grant us the strength, the peace, the discernment, the hope to weather the storm that we are facing.
Only You can equip us, Father...and You do.
(5) You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, (6) nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.
(7) A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
(8) You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.
(9) If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, (10) no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.
(11) For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; (12) they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
(13) You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
 (14) “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
(15) He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. (16) With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”  ~Psalm 91:5-16
~~~

Lord, Your Word is armor around us.  Father, Your Scriptures surround and empower us.  Holy God, The Holy Bible is alive and breathing LIFE into our hearts as we face the storms that approach us.

Your promises are laid open on the pages.  Psalm 91 calls to the deepness within us that You created within us.

But peppered in Your promises are the prerequisites of our safekeeping in You.  We must trust in You in order to be covered by Your feathers:

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.  (Psalm 91:1)

If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, (10) no harm will overtake you... (Psalm 91: 9)

“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. (Psalm 91:14)

He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.  (Psalm 91:15)

With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”  (Psalm 91:16).

There is a storm coming.  But we do not face it alone.

Dwell in the shelter of the Most High today.

Blessings,

sarah
