Lord, help us (daughters-of-Yours) to live today in faith, love, holiness, and modesty.

These are a unique foursome of personal-qualities, but they are the four pillars that God erects before us in Scripture today.  And (as always) He has purpose in doing so.

...continue to live in faith, love, holiness, and modesty.  ~I Timothy 2:15

To be specific, Paul is teaching the ladies within earshot to continue to live in faith, love, holiness, and modesty I Timothy 2:15).

And to be even more specific, Paul is preaching to the matriarchs, the mom's in his audience.

But women will be saved through childbearing, assuming they continue to live in faith, love, holiness, and modesty.  ~I Timothy 2:15

Saved from what?  Well...from our sin.  We all have it, and in this unique section of Scripture, Paul acknowledges the sin of Eve in the Garden of Eden and the perpetual generations of sin ever since her.  And (interestingly and omnisciently), God commissions Paul to pronounce that through childbearing women will be saved.

It's an interesting quote, and I realize that some of us are women who have not borne children, and others of us are men who will never be childbearers, but the Bible verses are what the Bible verses are, and the Lord raked them over and into the soil of my spirit today.

But women will be saved through childbearing, assuming they continue to live in faith, love, holiness, and modesty.  ~I Timothy 2:15

The initial realization that comes over me is that women will be saved through childbearing--and while any follower-of-Christ knows that our truest form of salvation comes through the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross ("Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved."  Acts 4:12)...

But beyond that, the Bible is lending that through parenting we have the opportunity and chance to make a great impact and difference, and if we will parent for God's glory, then His salvation falls over us also.

But (gulp!) in providing this promise, the Bible (God) is assuming a couple things about us:

But women will be saved... assuming they continue to live in faith, love, holiness, and modesty.  ~I Timothy 2:15

Whoops!  This is like a holiness-check, and I am not sure that I can check all of these boxes, but that's precisely why the Lord is re-aligning us today.

Let's strive to live in faith, love, holiness, and modesty today (I Timothy 2:15).

Faith.  How can we live in faith today?  Reading/studying the Bible?  Check.  We're doing that right now.   Believing God's Word?  Check.  We do, and we shall.   Live in faith.  Let's trust God and live in faith in Him and His  Word today.  Check.

Love.  How can we live in love today?  Do we understand/comprehend/appreciate God's love for us?  If we can grasp even a fraction of His forgiveness of our sin and His deep love for us...then it becomes easy for us to love and live in loveFather, help us to follow Your example and to live in love today.  Amen.

Holiness.  How can we live in holiness today?
Holiness.  Purity.  Righteousness.  How can we live in holiness today?  My answer is: we can't, except by God's grace.  There is nothing holy about us, except the spirit of Christ within us and the call of God on us.  The only way we can live in holiness today is by following God, His Way, His Word, and His promptings.  Holiness?  Yes, please, Lord.

Modesty.   How can we live in modesty today?
It's a great question, and one that is rarely asked.  Instead, we are encouraged/pushed/propoganda-ed/cultured into living without modesty and sans manners, demurity, or prudence.  Want to stick-out in society?  Be modest.

The ridicule of it can be ridiculous, but the rewards of (Biblical/sexual/verbal/physical) modesty are invaluable.  Champion modesty today, and reap the rewards tomorrow.

But women will be saved through childbearing, assuming they continue to live in faith, love, holiness, and modesty.  ~I Timothy 2:15

It's not the easiest verse to digest, but the more I chew on it, the better it tastes.

We have hope for ourselves and for future generations as a result of how well we perform with this generation.

These kids, these children, these young adults, these grown-children: will be direct recipients and beneficiaries of how (well) we live in faith, love, holiness, and modesty.

How can we live in faith, love, holiness, and modesty before a watching world today?

Help us, Lord.  We want You to assume that we will continue living in faith, love, holiness, and modesty today, and only You can help us do that.

Blessings,

sarah
