Don't forget your Fezziwig today!

"Who is Fezziwig", you might ask?

Surely we know Fezziwig.  Our heart knows Fezziwig.  Our childlike-self knows Fezziwig.  Our joyful and joy-filled self knows exactly who Fezziwig is.

Fezziwig is fun.  Fezziwig is light-hearted.  He is enjoy-the-moment and appreciate-life-today.

Fezziwig (Mr.) is a character in Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol".  And for every "bah-humbug" and pinched-penny that Ebenezer Scrooge seethed, Fezziwig (instead) danced a jig or laughed with mirth alongside Mrs. Fezziwig and friends (and to him everyone was a friend).

Don't forget your Fezziwig today!

It's easy for us (me!) to get caught up in deadlines, events, have-to's, and ought-to's, but joy is often a decision that we (simply) decide to make.

Our attitude is contagious...but what will we propel and project today?

A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.  ~Proverbs 17:22

I know what attitude God encourages us to have and share, and He even fills us with it:

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.  ~Romans 15:13

If we know and love the Lord, then we are filled with the fruits of His Spirit, and I think ol' Fezziwig must have been too:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, (23) gentleness and self-control.   ~Galatians 5:22-23

Choose to smile and dance at life today.

Are we seeking permission to do so?  Perhaps there has been hardship, sorrow, or loss.  In this case, joy is difficult to harness.  Can we?  Should we?

Or perhaps there has been accomplishment, earning, or blessing: does God provide the privilege of choosing joy?

Whether we are in heaviness or light-of-heart: God gives joy a nod.  Don't forget your Fezziwig today!

Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for God has already approved what you do.  ~Ecclesiastes 9:7

~~~
But where does our "Fezziwig" dance-the-jig joy come from?  It is not from the fiddler creating music for the dancefloor, and it's not from a banker that lays numerous bills in our palm.
The Holy One of Israel makes our "Fezziwig"-attitude possible today.  We rejoice in God and His Spirit fills us all-the-way-up!
"Shout aloud and sing for joy, people of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel among you.”  ~Isaiah 12:6
Go ahead: be fun today.  Make a point to be light-hearted.  Fezziwig-it and enjoy-the-moment and appreciate-life-today.
Let the Lord rescue us, and choose joy today.
...and those the Lord has rescued will return.  They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads.  Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.  ~Isaiah 35:10
