As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.  (2) My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.  When can I go and meet with God?  ~Psalm 42:1-2

~~~
We have had company at our house for the past week, and what a joy to be with family.  And with overnight guests comes altered sleeping arrangements: we had extra mattresses and inflatable beds scattered around the house and bedroom-swaps too.
I haven't been in my bed for a week, and (as a result), I haven't sunk to my knees beside my bed in prayer for a week.
But with our (beloved) guests and gusts of busy-ness gone, as I knelt in prayer before hitting the hay last night, it was like coming home.  ...Like taking a long drink of water without knowing exactly how very thirsty I had become.
Time alone with our Savior cannot be replaced by anything else.  Time spent in His presence and in prayer provides a rejuvenation and a refreshment to our spirit and our soul like nothing else.  People, places, experiences and even triumphs are wonderful "highs", but nothing fills us quite like the silent experience of being alone with our Creator.
As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. (2) My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.  When can I go and meet with God?  ~Psalm 42:1-2
Where can we go?  Right here.  Right wherever we are.
Become quiet.  Get on our knees.  Thank God for the good.  Thank Him for the hard.  He is with us in both sets of circumstances and He is always at work completing His will in our lives.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.  ~Romans 8:28
As I knelt in the dark and quiet of the night and prayed and praised the Lord, it was as if my spiritual tank was being filled in real time.
Seek Him today.  Make time for Him now.
Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him.  (2) Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken...
(5) Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him.  (6) Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
(7) My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
(8) Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.  ~Psalm 62:1-2, 5-8
God's Word...gives us our words.
Find rest in God today.  He is our rock, our salvation, our fortress.
We need that today.  We need Him today.  Those words (rock, salvation, fortress), all come to us from His Word today, and they describe the protection and safety and rest that we find in God our Father.
Get alone with God today.  Sink to our knees today.  Quiet our hearts and quiet our fears and pray to Him and praise Him.
Pant for Him.  Drink from Him.
Just us and just God, and just the truth of our day, and our heart, and ourselves: pray and talk to Him.
“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.
(6) But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. (7) And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.
(8) Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.  (9) “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, (10) your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  (11) Give us today our daily bread. (12) And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. (13) And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one’ ~Matthew 6:5-13
Whether life has been insanely busy or so boring that we might burst...talk to God today.  Drink from His waters today.
Our souls are panting for our God.  Our souls are thirsting for the living God.  Where can we go and meet with God?
Right here.  Right wherever we are.
Get quiet.
Sink to your knees spiritually (if not literally) and talk to God.
Honestly.  Earnestly.  Humbly.
And feel our spiritual tank be refilled in real time.
As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. (2) My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.  When can I go and meet with God?  ~Psalm 42:1-2
