Have you ever had a string hanging-down from a shirt or a button…and so, you pull it.  Sometimes the string snaps off, and you proceed with life.  But sometimes that string is the one fastening the button to the clothing, or holding the seam together, and so, pulling the string causes a button to fall off or a seam to fall apart.

Or—picture a sweater with just one strand of the woven yarn dangling.  It’s just one strand, but with the pressure of a pull, the whole sweater can unravel.

That is what I picture God telling us through the prophet Ezekiel about evil and those who are on the side of evil.

Their earthly “garment” may be in place today, but it is only a matter of time before it unravels completely or before the buttons fall off that are holding their superficial-status and false-truths together.

God is not blind to sin in this world, sin in our lives, and sin in the lives of those who do not submit their hearts to him.

For those of us who have confessed our sin and have accepted Christ as our Savior, we have received forgiveness in Christ, and we can trust in the hope and promises that the Bible proclaims for God’s people.  We can also trust that God will care for us.

But not so for the arrogant.  This won’t be the case for the lovers-of-self.  Those who worship idols and gods other than the One True God WILL be unraveled one day, and then they will know that God is Lord.

Today, the enemies of the Lord may:

  • Have eternal hatred for God’s people and Believers (Ezekiel 35:5).
  • (Literally/emotionally/mentally/proverbially) butcher God’s people and Believers when they were helpless… (Ezekiel 35:5).
  • Say, “What do we care that the Lord is there!”

But...persevere today, Child of God.

Keep marching in the army of Believers that has been advancing in the Name of God since the dawn of Creation.

God is sovereign.  Our Lord keeps His children close and vengeance will be His.
It is mine to avenge; I will repay. In due time their foot will slip; their day of disaster is near and their doom rushes upon them.”  ~Deuteronomy 32:35

Digest the words of Ezekiel and listen as the scoffer’s sweater unravels.
Today, the opponents of Christ may appear to enjoy victory over us, but in God's tomorrow their world of self-will come undone before the Lord's ultimate power.

Again a message came to me from the Lord: (2) “Son of man, turn and face Mount Seir, and prophesy against its people. (3) Give them this message from the Sovereign Lord“I am your enemy, O Mount Seir, and I will raise my fist against you to destroy you completely.

(4) I will demolish your cities and make you desolate. Then you will know that I am the Lord

(5) “Your eternal hatred for the people of Israel led you to butcher them when they were helpless, when I had already punished them for all their sins. (6) As surely as I live, says the Sovereign Lord, since you show no distaste for blood, I will give you a bloodbath of your own. Your turn has come! (7) I will make Mount Seir utterly desolate, killing off all who try to escape and any who return. (8) I will fill your mountains with the dead. Your hills, your valleys, and your ravines will be filled with people slaughtered by the sword. (9) I will make you desolate forever. Your cities will never be rebuilt. Then you will know that I am the Lord.

(10) “For you said, ‘The lands of Israel and Judah will be ours. We will take possession of them. What do we care that the Lord is there!’

(11) Therefore, as surely as I live, says the Sovereign Lord, I will pay back your angry deeds with my own. I will punish you for all your acts of anger, envy, and hatred. And I will make myself known to Israel by what I do to you.

(12) Then you will know that I, the Lord, have heard every contemptuous word you spoke against the mountains of Israel. For you said, ‘They are desolate; they have been given to us as food to eat!’ (13) In saying that, you boasted proudly against me, and I have heard it all!

(14) “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: The whole world will rejoice when I make you desolate. (15) You rejoiced at the desolation of Israel’s territory. Now I will rejoice at yours! You will be wiped out, you people of Mount Seir and all who live in Edom! Then you will know that I am the Lord.  ~Ezekiel 35:1-15

It's not a pretty picture for the ones that have doubted/denied/persecuted/and mocked the Lord and the people of the Lord.

God says here in Ezekiel 35 that when they spoke against Israel (God's chosen people and land, and also--an expanded term to include us, His children)...in saying that, you boasted proudly against me, and I have heard it all! (Ezekiel 35:13).

He has heard it all.  Every word against Him and against us when we stand for Him.  God has heard and seen and felt all that His children hear and see and feel from those that antagonize/ridicule/mock/or persecute His children.

None of what we go through is missed by the Lord's all-seeing eyes and we can just watch and wait for the unravelling to begin.

It will.

Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand.  ~Matthew 12:25

Without a foundation of Jesus Christ and God the Father...we don't have a foundation.  And those without God will find themselves and their "world" unravelling at some point.

Their earthly “garment” may be in place today, but it is only a matter of time before it unravels completely or before the buttons fall off that are holding their superficial-status and false-truths together.

God is not blind to the (mis)treatment of His people or the lack of belief of scoffers.  Even their tightly-knit lies will unravel one day soon enough.

“This is what the Sovereign Lord says: The whole world will rejoice when I make you desolate... (15) ...Then you will know that I am the Lord.  ~Ezekiel 35:14-15
