Taking pictures of the coastline the other day, I spotted something that brought my spirit a smile.

Question: What's black and white and polka-dot all over?

Answer: The creativity and intellectual design of our Divine Creator.

There, just below me on the coastal cliff, was a (black and white) mama seagull, feeding her (polka dot) chicks some lunch.

Did you know seagull chicks are polka dotted?

Me neither.

But what a gorgeous and creative and majestic and amazing touch, Lord.

So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind.

And God saw that it was good. (22) God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.” (23) And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.  ~Genesis 1: 21-23

God created that beautiful black and white mom-gull and in His wisdom and divine flamboyance, He made her baby-chicks polka-dotted.

Why?

Because God is good.  Because He is intelligent and Almighty and He is the Alpha and Omega (Revelation 22:13).  In short: What's black and white and polka-dot all over?  Whatever God wants.

Those beautiful (helpless) babies and their gorgeous gull-mama were on the side of a coastal shoreline, with waves breaking at the base and people gawking from railed paths at the edge and top, and yet, God supplied food to the gull and He taught her to provide it also to her chicks.

In the middle of all that swirls around them, God has created these birds not only to survive, but to thrive.

What's black and white and polka-dot all over?

Us.  Well--not literally, but just as God created the birds and their unique coloring and even variations in their feathers during their stages of life...our creative and intellectual Lord has designed us divinely for His purposes.

Each of us is unique.  (Stop trying to "look" like everyone else).  Black or white or polka-dotted: each of us is beautiful in whatever stage of life and faith we are in.

Do we know that we are loved by our Divine Creator?  We are.

The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.  ~Jeremiah 31:3

God created us with His wisdom and divine flamboyance.  We--each of us, are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14) and He cares for us today.

If we are feeling helpless, like a young chick today, or if we are in-charge of the well-being of others: the Lord God is with us today.

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.  ~Matthew 10:29

The Lord sees the waves that sometimes crash around us, and He knows that the cliff can be barren sometimes.  But He is here.  And God is good.  He is intelligent and Almighty and He is the Alpha and Omega (Revelation 22:13).  We can trust His care over us.

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.  ~Psalm 91:4

Just as the Lord was providing for those little polka-dot chicks through a protected nest in the side of the cliff and with a mama bird that cared for their needs..God cares for us, and He will provide for us.

Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on.  Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?  Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not of more value than they?  And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?  ~Matthew 6:25-27

Whatever is swirling around us and even within us...God is over all of it and in control of all of it and He is in control of us.

He made the birds, and they know where to dwell and what to do.

The birds of the sky nest by the waters; they sing among the branches.  ~Psalm 104:12

And God created us too. He feeds us intimately today with His Word, which is His life-blood. Let's receive it. Let's ingest the Lord's Biblical words of life and allow Him to fortify our spirit today. The Bible is how God tells us to dwell and thrive.

My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you.  (2) Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye.  ~Proverbs 7:1-2

Question: What's black and white and polka-dot all over?

Answer: God doing what God does best.

Remember today that He provides for us when we cry out.

Who provides food for the raven when its young cry out to God and wander about for lack of food?  ~Job 38:41

The Lord!
