Tap... Tap... Tap, tap...
I was working late at night, and our house was quiet. Everyone (else) was sleeping and it was silent, until I heard the taps.
I did a surveillance-lap around our living room and kitchen, and the flickering-flame of a candle that I had lit a few hours ago danced in the darkness.
Tap...tap.
I wasn't the only one who had noticed that flame in the dark. Outside our glass patio door, a single moth was periodically ramming itself against the glass...in an effort to get nearer to that candle's light.
Tap... Tap... Tap, tap...

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” ~John 8:12
The hope and the Truth and the light that Jesus Christ offers to people...to you...and to me: it draws us in. We can't help but want to be near Him...in fact, we were created in His image (So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. ~Genesis 1:27.
God made-us-to and desires-for-us-to abide in Him. He wants us to be drawn to His light and to be a part of His light. Everytime that we tap on God's door...He will always let us in.
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. ~John 15:5

Tap... Tap... Tap, tap...
That hope that we find in Christ... That purpose that God places in our hearts... That acceptance of God and in His salvation that absolves our guilty souls... That beautiful and unconditional love of our Heavenly Father...
We can't find that anywhere else--it's only found in our Lord's love, and of course, we (as His children) are drawn to it, like a moth to a flame.
...It's like nothing else, and so no wonder we tap... tap... tap... to get close to Him.
No--we can't get that anywhere else, and we've tried, haven't we? We've done more than tap on the door of worldly-idols in search of meaning and value and worth in this life. We've rammed ourselves into walls of false-idols, and we've come up empty time and time again after chasing mirages of success and purpose, only to get hurt and exhausted by our efforts.
But the love of God and the salvation of Jesus Christ are not on the other side of a glass door--untouchable or unreachable: They are right here.
Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. ~Revelation 3:20
But we sometimes wonder if we have placed a barrier between us and our God. Tap... Tap... Tap, tap... We yearn for Him, but we wonder if we have (in sin or short-coming) separated ourselves from our Lord?
Let God answer us through His Word:
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (38) For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, (39) neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. ~Romans 8:37-39

Tap... Tap... Tap, tap...
There are other taps...but these are the taps of others. They see you and how you shine. They see me and how I hope. They see her and how she perseveres. They see him and how he endures.
They see God's light in us, His children...and they tap, tap, tap because they want it too.
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. (15) Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. (16) In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." ~Matthew 5:14-16

Who is tap-tap-tapping and wondering/seeking/searching for Jesus today? People are throwing themselves in many flames-that-dance and idols-that-disappoint...but let's let our light shine before others, that they may see Jesus and draw near to His light of life.
I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me. ~Proverbs 8:17
