Corona Devo 2053

I've been meaning to vacuum for over a week.  Normally I vacuum once or twice a week, but I never go a whole week without doing it, if I'm on my game.  But every day this week...I would see some blades of grass that came off of a shoe here, or a little bit of dirt or crumbs there, and think, "I have to vacuum!"

But I never did.

The next fire needed put out...the next lunch needed packed..the next person needed attended to...the next event was upon us...and everything took precedence over my dirtier-by-the-day floor and carpet.

Ugh.  I would wake up or walk in, and my lack of attention to our floors would depress me, but I just couldn't get the vacuuming done!  As days ticked-by, the un-kept-ness of my floors nagged at me, but apparently not enough for the deed to get done.  I was well-meaning in wanting to vacuum...but I just couldn't prioritize it enough to get there.

And then finally, FINALLY(!!!) I vacuumed last night.  Aaahh, such a feeling (for me) of both peace and accomplishment in doing so!!  Why did I put that off so long?  And the acheivement and satisfaction of having it done feels every bit as good as I knew that it would.

Aaahhhh.  That's better.

Why didn't I do that earlier this week?  Instead, I watched my floors get messier and more unsightly day after day.

But not anymore.

A vacuumed house may not bring you the same satisfaction that it brings me, but (for me) having that taken care of makes my day and gives me the energy and wherewithal to do whatever is next.

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  ~Matthew 7:7

In the same vein as the (needed) vacuum that wasn't getting utilized...where is our Bible?

Have we been meaning to pick it up for the last week?  The last month?  The last decade?

Do we normally read the Bible often...and we never go a whole week (or however long it's been) without doing it (if we are on our game)?  And yet...time has slipped, and so have we.

Every day we mean to read our Bible.  A week passes and we wanted to read our Bible.  Our patience wanes, our anger flares, our sins surge, and we think, "I have to read the Bible!"

But we haven't.

The next fire needs put out...the next person needs attended to...WE need tended to, and we serve ourselves in everyway except the only Way that will really change anything.

  • Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.  ~Psalm 119:105
  • Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.  ~Psalm 1:1-3

Ugh.  We wake up or walk in, and our lack of attention to our Lord and His Word depresses us, but we just can't get the reading done!  As days tick-by, the self-serve instead of God-adhered state of our spirit nags at us, but apparently not enough for the deed to get done.

Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.  ~Joshua 1:8

And then finally, FINALLY(!!!) I hope that we will crack open the Big Book.

Aaahh, such a feeling of both peace and accomplishment in doing so!!  Why did we put that off so long?  And the achievement and satisfaction of having read the Bible feels every bit as good as we knew that it would.

Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your instructions.  ~Psalm 119:18

Aaahhhh.  That's better.

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  ~Matthew 7:7

Why didn't we do that earlier this week?  Instead, we watched our attitude, hope and faith get messier and more unsightly day after day.

But not anymore.  Not today.

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; (23) they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.  ~Lamentations 3:23

A Believer who is reading God's Word is a Believer that is alive.  And ingesting the Bible brings a satisfacion to our lives that nothing else can.

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.  ~Hebrews 4:12

God's Word gives us the energy and wherewithal to do whatever is next...with Him.

  • For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.  ~Hebrews 4:12
  • Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.  ~Proverbs 30:5

Dig your Bible off of the bookshelf.  Dust the cover of your Bible off.  O-P-E-N the pages.

For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.  ~Romans 15:4

If (yesterday) we hadn't read God's Word, I pray that tomorrow we can pray this:

I have not departed from the commandment of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my portion of food.  ~Job 23:12

Aaahhhh.  That's better.

God (simply) MUST be a priority in our lives.  His Word must be a top priority for us, or it will not be any priority for us.

  • So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples,  ~John 8:31

The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul;
the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;
(8) the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;
(9) the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether.
(10) More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.11 Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.  ~Psalm 19:7-12

Why have we put off reading the Bible (for ourselves) for so long?

The achievement and satisfaction of doing it will feel every bit as good (and more) as we knew that it would.

You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies; For they are ever with me.

(99) I have more understanding than all my teachers, for Your testimonies are my meditation.

(100) I understand more than the [ancients, because I keep Your precepts.  ~Psalm 119:99-100

Aaahhhh.  That's better.

Blessings,

Sarah
