Remind, reminding,...remember...

Sometimes I feel like my kids feel cornered by me and my reminders.

And I don't just mean reminders such as: "Put your shoes away", "pick up your room", or "put your dishes in the dishwasher".

If my kids remember me for anything, I hope it is for my Biblical reminders, even though from time to time they can get a glazed look in their eyes and there is an inaudible "Again?" that hangs in the air when I run and get my Bible to "read them a few verses" for their day.

But--I can't help it!  And nor do I want to (help it).  The Holy Scriptures within the Bible were spoken from God to the people and prophets who wrote the Bible, and we will do well to be reminded of these things even though you already know them and are standing firm in the truth you have been taught.

Even though we know it--it's good to be reminded today about how critical-in-our-lives the Bible is, and to remember again it's importance...its life-giving connection between us and our Lord.

And I'm not the only one that feels this way about the Bible...hopefully you do too, and Peter did as well.  He wasn't reminding his kids about the events, the miracles, the salvation, and the validity of the Bible: Peter was reminding other followers of God.

And we need it (reminded) don't we?

We need reminded today.

We could use a little encouragement to keep following hard after God today.
We could stand to be refreshed-in-the-purpose of the Gospel.
We will not resist being re-invigorated in our unique role and calling in serving the Lord in our spot today.

Let Peter remind us:

Therefore, I will always remind you about these things—even though you already know them and are standing firm in the truth you have been taught. (13) And it is only right that I should keep on reminding you as long as I live. (14) For our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me that I must soon leave this earthly life, (15) so I will work hard to make sure you always remember these things after I am gone.

(16) For we were not making up clever stories when we told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We saw his majestic splendor with our own eyes (17) when he received honor and glory from God the Father. The voice from the majestic glory of God said to him, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.” (18) We ourselves heard that voice from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.

(19) Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets. You must pay close attention to what they wrote, for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place—until the Day dawns, and Christ the Morning Star shines in your hearts.

(20) Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding, (21) or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.  ~II Peter 1:12-21

Why remind ourselves of what the Bible prophets spoke?

Why remind others of what the Bible prophets spoke?

Because--for all of us, the world is a dark place.  (Can I get an "amen"?)  But the Bible, and the words within it: their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place (II Peter 1:19).

I don't know about you, but I could use a little of the Lord's lamp light today--shining in to my dark places.

And--if we know or come across someone who needs a lamp shining in a dark place...then give them a reminder from the Bible today!

II Peter 1:12-15

Remind, reminding,...remember...

We need reminded today.

The world and the wicked whisper doubts and sow seeds of suspicion:

The serpent was more clever than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. The serpent said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat fruit from any tree in the garden’?”  ~Genesis 3:4

    "Did God really say...?

Satan has won if we doubt the credibility of God.  But our Lord has triumphed if we will trust God's Word and what He told the prophets to say.

Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding, (21) or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.  ~II Peter 1:20-21

Peter reminds us, is reminding us...and tells us to remember...

And God is reminding us of the importance of the Bible in our lives today even though you already know them and are standing firm in the truth you have been taught.  ~II Peter 1:12

If my kids (and you) remember me for anything, I hope it is for my Biblical reminders.

I can't help it--and nor do I want to.  The Holy Scriptures within the Bible were spoken from God to the people and prophets who wrote the Bible, and we will do well to be reminded of these things today.

Blessings,
