Corona Devo 2073
A friend of ours shared the other day about her last work environment, and that the team of people that she worked with were all eligible and encouraged to apply for management and leadership positions...but none of them would. They were proud and content to stay at entry-level positions, so as not to incur any additional responsibility or work.
The Bible reminds us to make-no-mistake: That kind of thinking and living is not the life that God has planned for His children to be living.
Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! (7) It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, (8) yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.
(9) How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep?
(10) A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—(11) and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man. ~Proverbs 6:6-11
I'm not sure when I started striving to do my best, but I can't remember not attempting to do so.
I could blame my second grade teacher for making us memorize (and embody), "Good better best, never let it rest, till your good is better, and your better best." I could blame her, but instead, I thank her.
I could blame my parents for encouraging us to work hard, and for expecting us to put forth every effort in school and on the field/track/report card/job. I could blame them, but instead, I thank them.
Our Lord demands more from His children. Shame on us, and we should be ashamed to hover beneath responsibility or leadership roles because it would require more effort from us than the bare minimum. Indeed we were born for 'more', and we serve a holy God who deserves it. We could blame Him, but instead, we praise Him!
- And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. ~Colossians 3:17
- Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, (24) since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. ~Colossians 3:23-24

Are we debating pushing the snooze button one more time this morning?
Don't do it (again). Rise and shine for our Lord today.
Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let your hands not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well. ~Ecclesiastes 11:6

Have we an opportunity to rise, to lead, to serve, to impact others? Take it today.
Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. ~Hebrews 13:7

Is there a short cut? A sure-bet? A get-rich-quick plan or a cheat sheet? Forsake the easy way today and put in the work. Our Lord sees and knows all, especially the intentions of our hearts. He can turn us from selfish to selfless...but we have to seek His help.
A hard worker has plenty of food, but a person who chases fantasies ends up in poverty.
(20) The trustworthy person will get a rich reward, but a person who wants quick riches will get into trouble.
(21) Showing partiality is never good, yet some will do wrong for a mere piece of bread.
(22) Greedy people try to get rich quick but don’t realize they’re headed for poverty. ~Proverbs 28:19-22

If we are placed in a position to step in and step up for more and for the Lord today, I pray that we will feel led to do so. As God's children made in His image (Genesis 1:27), may we never settle for the status quo. God has more for us, and He expects us to step in to it. We could blame Him, but instead, we thank Him.
From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked. ~Luke 12:48
