It's very simple, really.
People ask about God and how to find Him.
We wonder how we will "know" if we actually (truly) "know" the Lord. (How DO we know? CAN we know?)
We sure can.
People that don't know the Lord may think that He is ambiguous or hard to know. (A+B= ?).
But people that know the Lord know that the opposite is true. (A+B=C). There is an order to all things, and there is an order to knowing God. He has spoken directly to us through His Word (the Bible). Within the Bible God gives us direction...His commands.
Do we know God's commands? Do we keep them?
...THAT'S how we know that we have come to know Him. It's an easy equation. (A+B=C).
We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. (4) Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. (5) But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: (6) Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did. ~I John 2:3-6
Let's review: How do we know that we are in step with our Savior?
Do we know that we know Him? How?
How can we know? (A+B= ?)
We know... If we obey His commands. (A+B=C)
We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. ~I John 2:3
Are we obeying his commands? (We also know if we are NOT obeying his commands)
We may be wondering how we can we know his commands?
Read them!
Read His word.
Read the Bible. What does God say in it? What are His commands?
Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. ~I John 2:4
Uh oh. What if we haven't been reading the Bible for ourselves lately? What if we never have?
Well--How about right now? Got a minute?
But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: ~I John 2:5
Reading God's word is the first step in obedience of it. We are off to a good start today! And... if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him... (I John 2:5).
THIS! This is how we know we are in Him: (6) Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did (I John 2:5-6).
The tallest.
Our sins (which separate us from God) have been taken care of. Forgiven. Jesus is the atoning sacrifice and because of Him, God forgives us. And not just you and me, but all of us.
Because of the blood that Jesus Christ (JC) shed for us, God is impartial: He loves and welcomes everyone. But we have a choice to make today: we must accept and react to Him with our hearts and lives, and...we must keep his commands. (JC=U, Me, anyone interested).
It's very simple, really.
Do we know (or desire to know) God's commands?
Do we keep them?
...THAT'S how we know that we have come to know Him. It's an easy equation. (A+B=C).
We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. (4) Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person.
