We've heard the saying, "Everything old is new again", but let's apply that to our faith heartbeat today.

Do we need a little spiritual-pick-me-up?  (And I don't mean coffee!)

If our once pounding-for-Jesus heartbeat has slowed or become a bit faint...be revived by the Bible today!!

Be refreshed in what we know about God and serving Him.  Everything old is new again, and this means God's commandments too.

Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment for you; rather it is an old one you have had from the very beginning. This old commandment—to love one another—is the same message you heard before. (8) Yet it is also new. Jesus lived the truth of this commandment, and you also are living it. For the darkness is disappearing, and the true light is already shining.  ~I John 2:7-8

Our daughter went in for her yearly check-up at the pediatricians recently, and there's so much to say when you only visit once a year, and I realized after we left that I didn't get to discuss everything that we should have with the doctor.  I like our doctor a lot, and that's because I relate to her because she is a wife, mom, and Christ-follower like me.  During our conversation at appointments in other years, we have touched on matters-of-faith, and both of us have been encouraged to hear and know what God is doing in our separate circles.

Regrettably, we didn't discuss the Lord this time.  We didn't get to tell her about the young people meeting weekly in public high schools and universities to learn about Jesus and the Bible.  I didn't get to hear about the local restaurant that her family owns and the latest ways that they have supported and shined God's light into their community through the business.

To our dear friend and pediatrician, who is (quite literally) watching generations be born and grow up each day: keep loving one another as you do in those doctor's offices each day, for the darkness is disappearing, and the true light is already shining (I John 2:7-8).

You are a ray of that true light that is already shining.  Keep shining!

To the grandparent watching the news and shaking their head and wringing their hands about the world and it's ways: don't stress-out, freak-out, or give up on this world quite yet: for the darkness is disappearing, and the true light is already shining (I John 2:7-8).

The apostle John writes us a note in the Bible about how to proceed today.  Everything we know about God is still true.  It is the same message you heard before...keep shining!

To my good friend whose family is being hit with one medical issue and procedure and delay after another.  The strain on the patient is life-threatening, and the strain on the family members is heart-breaking, peace-threatening, and sanity-stealing.

It can feel like we are in a tunnel that has no end.  But...there is a light, and it is God Himself.  He is the true light, and He shines through us as we love one another when "one another" needs it.

Jesus lived the truth of this commandment, and (we also!) must live it out to others (I John 2:8).

Let's be a beam of that true light that is already shiningShine into and onto someone who needs it today.  God gave us this command and Jesus lived the truth of this commandment, but it is not new, it is old.

This isn't a new commandment (to love one another), but did we need to be refreshed in knowing and living it out today?

Share a story of how you've seen God work/move/show-up in your life lately...and watch the darkness disappear.

Turn off the news and write a note of encouragement or a letter of love to someone that needs it.  God will tell you who.  This old commandment—to love one another—is the same message you heard before, and today is a new day to live it out.

 See a need...and meet it.

 Love one another.

God has set our standard, and Jesus has lived the example.  Today it's our turn.  Everything old is new again, dear friends, and so are we!  Let's be revived and motivated by the Bible because the darkness is disappearing, and the true light is already shining
