Hey!  You know that (wonderful) feeling when we go to the mailbox/mailroom/post office, and someone has written to us?

For me?!

Oh, it's wonderful when someone has written to us.  Thought about us.  Been intentional and specific to care and to write to us.

Hey!...  We got a letter in the mail today!  Someone has written to us.  Just us.  But...each and every one of us.

It's a letter from John the apostle.  Not-the-disciple John, but the contemporary of Jesus, John.
John, who saw Jesus live and die...that John: he tells us who he is writing to...and it's us.

Remember today that we are dear children of God, and God (through John) has written to us today:

I am writing to you, dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name.  ~I John 2:12

Like a letter in our mailbox, personally addressed to us: the Lord delivers His most pertinent message to us through the Bible (I John) today: your sins have been forgiven on account of his name

Yes they have.

Not on our account have our sins been forgiven, but on account of his name.

We.  Are.  Forgiven.  We could not receive a more beautiful message written to us today.

Are we dear children (of God the Father)?  Then John  has written to us today.

~~~
Are we fathers?  ("Fathers" in blood, by role, by influence, by calling, by spiritual assignment.)  Then we got a letter in the mail today!  Someone has written to us:
I am writing to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning.   ~I John 2:13
~~~

Are we young men?  (And young women?)  Were we once young men and young women?  Then we got a letter in the mail today!  Someone has written to us:

I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one.  ~I John 2:13

Like a young person with optimism, strength, fortitude and time: the Lord has written to us because we have overcome the evil one.

Overcome him in all forms today, dear children.

 ~~~
Hey!...  We got a letter in the mail today!
I write to you, dear children, because you know the Father.  ~I John 2:14
~~~

Hey!...  We (fathers) got a letter in the mail today!

I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning.  ~I John 2:14

~~~
Hey!...  We got a letter in the mail today!
I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one.  ~I John 2:14
~~~

Hey!...  We got a letter in the mail today!   God has written to us.  Thought about us.  Been intentional and specific to care and to write to us.  This is what else He wrote to us in 1 John:

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.

(16) For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.

(17) The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.  ~I John 2:12-14

What is our response to that letter?  Do we want to return it to the Sender?

God delivers a strict standard through what He has written to us here.  Are we reading our mail from the Lord today?

Is God reading our mail?  We are His dear children, and a parent knows their child.  And loves their child enough to provide guidance and boundaries that (the parent knows) are in their child's best interest.

This is what our Heavenly Father is doing in the letter that John writes to us.  God encourages us and He directs us through the writings of His Word.

I am writing to you, dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name.
(13) I am writing to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning.
I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one.
(14) I write to you, dear children, because you know the Father.
I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning.
I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

~I John 2:12-17

The apostle John drops a letter into our spiritual mailbox today.

For me?!

Yes.  Written to us in love and sent with love.  God thought about us today.  He is intentional and specific to care for us today.  And (through the apostle John), the Lord is writing to us today.

Blessings,

Sarah
