When we look in the mirror today...what do we see?  Who do we see?

And when we look in the mirror "tomorrow"...(in our "tomorrow" when Christ appears): what will we see?

The answer is the same for both questions: we will be like God.

If we know the Lord, then we know how very much our Father loves us, and we will desire to look-like/be-like Him today.

If we know the Lord, then we know that he calls us his children, and therefore we will want to love, serve, and live like our Heavenly Father.  We want to be like him.

It's futuristic, it's spiritual, it's (even) holy...to imagine what it will be like-- what WE will be like when Christ appears.

But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is. (3) And all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure (I John 3:2-3).

We don't know exactly what "tomorrow" brings in terms of our reflection of God, but the Bible says that in the expectation of that day (and reality) then the thing to do is to keep ourselves pure, just as he is pure (I John 3:2).

That's today's assignment, friends: purity.  In what area?  All areas.

If we want to be like him tomorrow, then we must be pure like him today.

When we are impure (in deeds, actions, words, or thoughts), then we are sinning, and we are not like him.

Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God. (5) And you know that Jesus came to take away our sins, and there is no sin in him. (6) Anyone who continues to live in him will not sin. But anyone who keeps on sinning does not know him or understand who he is.  ~I John 3:4-6

But, friends...we KNOW him and we UNDERSTAND who he is!!!

So let's reflect the Lord and His purity today.  One act at a time.  One word at a time.  One thought at a time.  With His help, let's keep ourselves pure, just as he is pure (I John 3:3).

And we know purity when we look it in the mirror.  It's beautiful and empowering to see purity in our reflection.

And we also know sin when it is looking back at us in the mirror.  It's shameful and ugly to see sin in our reflection.

Dear children, don’t let anyone deceive you about this: When people do what is right, it shows that they are righteous, even as Christ is righteous. (8) But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning.

But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil. (9) Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God. (10) So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the devil. Anyone who does not live righteously and does not love other believers does not belong to God.  ~I John 3:7-10

And there it is: our image in the mirror.  Our reflection of God, when we know Him.

...Do we know Him?

Then surely our reflection is like him, and if not...then do we know him?

But anyone who keeps on sinning does not know him or understand who he is.  ~I John 2:6

We can be "caught" in this reflection (with sin) today, but we do not have to maintain it.  We can always choose purity and turn from sin.  It feels impossible sometimes, when we are stuck in sin.  It seems unattainable when we have reverted so many times.  But nothing...nothing is impossible with God, and that (especially) means turning from our sin.

But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”  ~Matthew 19:26

Don't keep on sinning, friend (friend of mine in Christ, and friend of God).  God made a way for us to be like him, and His Name is Jesus.

And you know that Jesus came to take away our sins, and there is no sin in him. (6) Anyone who continues to live in him will not sin.  ~I John 2:5-6

Let's live in him today.  And then we will be like him today...and "tomorrow": in heart, in purity, and in reflection of Him.

See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are!

But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him.

(2) Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears.

But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is.

(3) And all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure.  ~I John 3:1-3
