I used to like riddle games when I was young.
Thirteen S on the A F.

Lord...You are unexplained. Like a riddle or a mystery, or a puzzle fitting together...You are mysterious and You are everything. All meaning comes from You and You are the meaning within all things.
You created the world--the heavens and the earth. Every ocean, every animal. Every plant, every person... You made it all on purpose, and with purpose. (This means you and me too!)
You started all this. And it started with light in the darkness.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (2) Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
(3) And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. (4) God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. (5) God called the light ‘day’, and the darkness he called ‘night’. And there was evening, and there was morning – the first day. ~Genesis 1:1-5
The mystery continues to unravel. (In a good way.) In the best way. Jesus. He is our light in the darkness.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (2) He was with God in the beginning. (3) All things were created through him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created. (4) In him was life, and that life was the light of men. (5) That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it....(9) The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.
(10) He was in the world, and the world was created through him, and yet the world did not recognize him. ~John 1:1-5, 9-10
Clues were given about God's son since the beginning of Creation. With Adam and Eve's bite of forbidden fruit came the requirement of a sin-offering to pay the price of our debts before our holy God, whom we grieve with our sin.
Lambs, doves, grain, and gold were (and are) among the items offered up as (momentary) sacrifices-- sufficing for today's sin but not enough, (never enough) to cover tomorrow's.
But prophets whispered of one to come, a light in the darkness. One whose propitiation would forever rectify our sin-situation.
- Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. ~Isaiah 7:14 (Immanuel means God with us.)
- “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.” ~Micah 5:2
He would come to be with us, to be a light in our darkness.
And then he came.
"For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord" ~Luke 2:11
Let there be light.
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” ~John 8.12
The mystery has been revealed. He was born in a stable and raised by Joseph and Mary. But His ministry did not begin in that manger at midnight, it began when God spoke the heavens and earth into existence.
And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. (4) God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. ~Genesis 1:3
Jesus separates the light from the darkness. He always has.
He will do exactly this in our lives, our hearts, our minds, our mouths, our thoughts...if we will allow Him to hover over us.
This world, this culture, this life...it is largely formless and empty. Darkness is over the surface of the deep.
But God and His Spirit...they hover over us.
Let His light in today.
Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. ~Genesis 1:2
But Jesus hovers over us today.
And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. (4) God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. ~Genesis 1:3
Jesus is our light. Indeed, he always has been. He has always been. He was hovering over the waters at Creation. He was born in a manger to Mary and Joseph. He died for our sin but rose from the dead to ascend to His rightful and righteous throne in Heaven.
Lord...You are unexplained. Like a riddle or a mystery, or a puzzle fitting together...You are mysterious and You are everything. All meaning comes from You and You are
the meaning within all things.
You created the world--and You alone are the Light of it.
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” ~John 8.12
Thank you, Lord.
In him was life, and that life was the light of men. (5) That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it.... ~John 1:4-5
Let this truth of Christ's light shine into our darkness today. Shine into our souls today. Jesus Christ is a riddle that we were meant to solve.
Jesus, You truly are the light of the world, and You always have been. We seek Your light today. We are sick of the world's darkness and in Your strength, we rebuke it. We will follow You today. We choose not to walk in darkness, and we are blessed to walk in Your light of life. Amen. (John 8.12)
