Good day!!  It is officially "springtime"!  Time to spring-forward today!

Well, ok, the official "astronomical" start of spring in the Northern Hemisphere (this year) technically occurs on March 20th at 10:46 AM (Eastern)...but where I live, last night was the time to "spring forward" with our clocks, and so, I consider losing an hour of sleep by "springing-forward" the start of Spring.  And regardless of whether we feel that "springtime" begins today or in a few days, the fact remains that (like it or not), Spring is upon us.

What are we going to do about that?

The Bible (God's Word) has a word for us about "springtime" today.  (Timely, isn't it?)  And judging by our Heavenly Father's track record, His timing is no coincidence.

It's spring time.  Is it time to "spring-forward" with something/some plan/some idea/someone/some mission that the Lord has set before us?

How are we responding?

In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, Joab led out the armed forces. He laid waste the land of the Ammonites and went to Rabbah and besieged it, but David remained in Jerusalem. Joab attacked Rabbah and left it in ruins.  ~I Chronicles 20:1

Is there something in our life that the Lord has directed us to align-with, accept, or enter-into?  (Are we?)

It was spring when Joab led King David's army out to war.  Biblical scholars ascertain that this was the pattern of war "timing" in David's day, because kings would go out to battle and wage-war after the spring harvests had been completed.  This was practical because after harvesting, the labor of farming would ease-up, which would provide soldiers, and armies could also live off of the land.

In the winter-time, kings plotted and planned their conquests and invasions, and when spring (fair) weather set in, these plans could be carried out as the armies went to war.

It's spring time.  Is it time to "spring-forward" with something/some plan/some idea/someone/some mission that the Lord has set before us?

It was time for (King) David to "spring forward".  Spring was the time for kings to lead their armies into battle.  But David remained in Jerusalem (I Chronicles 20:1).

Why?

We are not told.  But I am sure that we have been told what David did instead of going to war with his army that spring.

But David ignored the "spring" in his life.  He ignored the pattern of kings to go to war.  He did not enter-in to his role for the time-at-hand.

And what happened?

A fall to sin happened.  David's greatest blemish on his faith-record happened.  A consequence to David not springing-forward in God's call on his life at that time happened.

In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king’s men and the whole Israelite army. They destroyed the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. But David remained in Jerusalem.

(2) One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful, (3) and David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, “She is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite.” (4) Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her...  Then she went back home. (5) The woman conceived and sent word to David, saying, “I am pregnant.”  ~2 Samuel 11:1-5

It was during David's time of "inactivity", or apathy, or even disobedience that he sinned with Bathsheba.

David should have been at war, but he remained in Jerusalem.

The Bible Chapters of I Chronicles 20 and 2 Samuel 11, both state plainly: In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war...

But David didn't go off to war.

It's spring time.  Is it time to "spring-forward" with something/some plan/some idea/someone/some mission that the Lord has set before us?

Beyond "springing" our clocks forward, let's look for the "springs" in our life currently.  Is there something that God has made known to us?  Is there something afoot for us to respond-to, take-initiation, and move-out-to-do-His-will in?

God has a word for us about "springtime" today, our Heavenly Father timing is no coincidence.

Often during critical "spring" times, we can be most vulnerable.  Vulnerable to in-activity.  Vulnerable to apathy.  Vulnerable to anxiety.  Vulnerable to sin.

Let's resolve to partner with our Lord to take action and to "spring forward" with what He has prescribed.  Don't give temptation a foothold in our thinking or our faith.

Good day!!  It is officially "springtime"!  Time to spring-forward today!

Blessings,

sarah
