Corona Devo 3104

A four hour drive through three major cities, spanning the rush hours and winds sustaining 85 MPH?

Worth it.

He causeth the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings for the rain; he bringeth the wind out of his treasuries.  ~Psalm 135:7

A half-mile brisk-walk in dress shoes while dodging puddles in the rain?

Light work.

for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’  ~Acts 17:28

Standing outside in the dark in below freezing temperatures while snow and sleet spit from the sky?

Magical.

“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. (10) As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, (11) so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

(12) You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace... ~Isaiah 55:9-12

Five people ranging in height from 5'9" to 6'3" in one modest hotel room?

Priceless and special.

Children are a heritage from the Lordoffspring a reward from him. (4) Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. (5) Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.  ~Psalm 127:3-5

On a slightly spontaneous whim, our family of five decided to drive after school on Friday to Niagara Falls.

The winds that night were scarily strong and when we got to the Falls it was (below!) freezing and sleet/snow/raining.

And I wouldn't have changed a moment of any of it.

This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.  ~Psalm 118:24

With children who are growing up and (literally) moving in new directions, it's difficult to gather our gaggle.  But for a brief escape we did...and the giggles flowed, along with contentment and joy, and I knew in my heart that this is the full life.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.  ~John 10:10

Are we waiting for the perfect day?  The perfect spouse?  The perfect kids?  The perfect us?  The perfect job?  Perfect health.  Perfect provision?  Perfect weather?  Perfect faith?  Perfect joy?  Perfect circumstances?

Don't.

Perfection doesn't exist where we (now) live.  

But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ...  ~Philippians 3:20

Perfection doesn't exist here on earth, but contentment does.  

But godliness with contentment is great gain. (7) For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. (8) But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 

(9) Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. (10) For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. 

(11) But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. (12) Fight the good fight of the faith.  ~I Timothy 6:6-12

Choosing contentment today means choosing life today.
And while choosing the full life today may be an act of willpower, the choice is still ours.

Make the contentment choice today.

Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.  (4) Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.  ~Psalm 37:3-4

There will be physical/emotional/spiritual rainy days for us, but God is over the rain and He shines His light into our darkness.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.  ~John 1:5

So much of life and so much of today is all in how we look at it.  The Lord invites us to see the world through His lens...and live today!

Yet he has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy.”  ~Acts 14:17

Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, (17) so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, (18) may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, (19) and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.  

(20) Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, (21) to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.  (Ephesians 3:16-22).

Choosing contentment just for today is...

Worth it.

Light work.
