Some things we are ready for, but some things...we didn't see coming.
Like the meteor that fell from the sky and (thankfully) disintegrated before touching down...a few miles from where I live.
My Nation, my state, my county, my city, and even my section of the city is where a six-foot, 17,000 pound meteorite almost touched down the other day.
A meteor of that size shooting down from the sky is rare, and I didn't see that coming.
Turns out, no one else did either. Not the meteorologists, not the NASA engineers, no one was aware or on-the-look-out, or even watching for this (huge) meteorite, but a few people and cams caught it on display as the fiery ball flashed its way towards earth, finalizing its fizzle over the fields of our city and county.
I didn't see that coming.
A meteor, we wouldn't really be ready for, and we are not expected to be.
But Jesus Christ is coming back...we cannot be caught off guard for that one.
Have we ever stopped to notice...or to read how very many times in the Bible that God and Jesus warn us to have our hearts prepared for when Jesus comes back to earth? His second-coming is foretold and foreshadowed and stated plainly. We have to see it coming, Brothers and Sisters.
The meteor in my neighborhood shook houses and structures, and made a huge loud and thundering sound. Ask five people who experienced it, and we will get five different descriptions, but everyone who saw or heard it knew something big was happening.
The Lord tells us in the Bible to be prepared, because something big will happen when it's time for Jesus to return.
Those who describe this event in the Bible all have similar statements, even though the chapters and verses are written by all different people.
Was it a meteor that fell from the sky the other day? And regardless of what it was--we must ready our hearts so that we will see Christ when He comes.
Watch out! I have warned you about this ahead of time! (24) “At that time, after the anguish of those days, the sun will be darkened, the moon will give no light, (25) the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken...
(29) In the same way, when you see all these things taking place, you can know that his return is very near, right at the door...
(32) “However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows. (33) And since you don’t know when that time will come, be on guard! Stay alert!
(35) You, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know when the master of the household will return—in the evening, at midnight, before dawn, or at daybreak. (36) Don’t let him find you sleeping when he arrives without warning. ~Mark 13:23-25, 29, 32-36
In the New Testament, Matthew, Peter, Paul, Mark, and John all foretell...but also fore-comfort those of us who have come to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Scriptures relating to when Christ will come back can be intimidating, but not for those of us who aren’t in the dark about these things:
For you know quite well that the day of the Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night. (3) When people are saying, “Everything is peaceful and secure,” then disaster will fall on them as suddenly as a pregnant woman’s labor pains begin. And there will be no escape.
(4) But you aren’t in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you won’t be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief. ~I Thessalonians 5:2-4

Peter tells of coming mayhem, but his optimism about Heaven is almost audible as we read His Words about the last days. Yes, Christ will come unexpectedly, like a meteor zooming across the sky, but we are looking forward to the new heavens and new earth he has promised, a world filled with God’s righteousness.
Peter tells us that this will happen but we will be victorious in Christ, and until then...make every effort to be found living peaceful lives that are pure and blameless in his sight.
But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment.
(11) Since everything around us is going to be destroyed like this, what holy and godly lives you should live, (12) looking forward to the day of God and hurrying it along. On that day, he will set the heavens on fire, and the elements will melt away in the flames. (13) But we are looking forward to the new heavens and new earth he has promised, a world filled with God’s righteousness.
(14) And so, dear friends, while you are waiting for these things to happen, make every effort to be found living peaceful lives that are pure and blameless in his sight.
(15) And remember, our Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved. ~II Peter 3:10-15

Matthew foretells of stars falling from the sky, but that is only one detail of many that he gives about the last days. The Bible fills us in on so much, there is just no excuse to say that we "didn't see that coming".
Read God's Word with me, so that we are not left lost.
“Immediately after the distress of those days “‘the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’
(30) “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. (31) And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other...
(36) “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son but only the Father...
(42) “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. (43) But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. (44) So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. ~Matthew 24:29-31, 36, 42-44

The night after the meteor sighting, I was sitting alone and our son came and sat quietly next to me. After a while he told me that he loved me and that he was glad I was still here after the meteor event.
If what the scientists say is true, then some of us came awfully close to being affected (to put it mildly) by the meteor. Our son is a math guy, and he tells me that if the meteor had stayed whole (and had not disintegrated) for another 4.1 seconds, many of us would no longer be here.
If what God says is true, then it won't matter if it is a meteor, cancer, old age, or dying in our sleep: if we know and love the Lord--we already see it coming. We have a place reserved with God in Heaven, and we have a Bible that tells us so.
We can see that coming.
My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? (3) And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. (4) You know the way to the place where I am going.” ~John 14:2-4
