How can
we appropriately explain Easter to someone...to ourselves?
What do Good Friday and
Resurrection Sunday really mean for us?
They
mean no more gloom for those who were in distress.
And
we've all been in distress.
The
overarching "human dilemma"-distress affects us
all. This world is not our home and nothing is quite (all the way)
"right" here. Even our best days have their cracks and flaws,
and we are never completely at peace and at rest here
on earth. There is always some whisper of distress in
our mind or heart, because even on the sunniest and smoothest times and people
contain distress.
And
what about personal-distress?
Challenge/trial/sickness/injury/grief/doubt/loneliness/sin: all of it brings distress upon
us.
How about sin-distress?
Heaven: we can't get there from here.
Heaven is holy and houses our holy God. But we are soiled by sin that we
cannot shake or wash ourselves clean of.
Inevitably,
there is distress, and so within our human hearts and souls, there
is (inevitably) gloom.
But...enter
salvation.
Enter...Easter.
Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress... (2) The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. ~Isaiah 9:1-2
Jesus
enters...and we are reminded and refreshed of that at Easter-time. He is
the light, even though we currently live on earth, in the
shadow of death. (Can I get an amen?)
But a
light has dawned!!!
Not
just a light, but Easter (Jesus!) brings victory! His sacrifice for us on
the cross (atoning for our sin) shatters the yolk (of
sin) that burdens us. Christ overcoming death on the cross shatters the bar
(rod) that Satan (our oppressor) tries to (incessantly)
press upon our shoulders and souls.
For as in the day of Midian’s defeat, you have shattered the yoke that burdens them, the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor. ~Isaiah 9:4
Easter
reminds us (and proves to us!) that Jesus breaks that
rod of sin-reign over us. Christ shatters it at
the cross and on Resurrection Sunday.
And in doing so...the past
is the past.
Our sins from yesterday and yesteryear, and our sins from a moment ago
are gone in God's sight.
The sins that Satan tries to
hold us hostage with are thrown in the fire and extinguished by
the sacrifice, grace, miracle, and mercy of our God at Golgotha.
Every sin-stained moment and
memory of ours will be destined for
burning, will be fuel for the fire.
Every warrior’s boot used in battle and every garment rolled in blood will be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire. ~Isaiah 9:5

Easter!
How can
we appropriately explain Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday to someone...to
ourselves?
Christ
came.
Christ
was sacrificed.
Christ
conquered sin for us and over us.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
(7) Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this. ~Isaiah 9:6-7

Christ
came.
For to
us a child is born, to us a son is given... ~Isaiah 9:6
Christ
was sacrificed.
For God
so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that
whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
~John 3:16

Easter
is coming because Christ has already come.
Appropriately
explain Easter to someone today, so that there will be no more
gloom for those who are in distress.
Easter
Sunday (Resurrection Day!) means one thing: On those living in the land of deep darkness a light has
dawned (Isaiah 9:2).
Shine it!
Blessings,
