Have we suffered?
Are we suffering?

David was a warrior.  He fought hard battles in hand to hand (archaic) brutal battles, and he handled tough physical feats that might make us faint to even imagine.  David was tough and he did tough things.

But, remember, David was also a shepherd.  He was (at times) tender with lambs and (always) protective of his flock, and fierce if foes encroached on his herd.

But, for all of the bravado, and all of the bravery that David held...he was human too.  He hurt, and he suffered.

He had enemies and foes and adversaries, just as we do.  But He loved God and sought to honor Him, just as we do.

And the Lord promised His presence and protection and blessing to David...just as He does for us.

David wrote to God:
Psalm 132
(1) Lord, remember David and all that he suffered.  ~Psalm 132:1

David suffered, even in the midst of the physical and spiritual conquests and victories of his life.

We suffer too.

David suffered, but do we know what propelled him even during his suffering?  David's desire to honor God drove him in his days.

He made a solemn promise to the Lord.  He vowed to the Mighty One of Israel, (3) “I will not go home; I will not let myself rest. (4) I will not let my eyes sleep nor close my eyelids in slumber (5) until I find a place to build a house for the Lord, a sanctuary for the Mighty One of Israel.”  ~Psalm 132:2-5

We have to remember (and be inspired) by where David placed his declaration and desire to honor the Lord...right next to his suffering.  In one breath (Verse 1) David recalls and asks the Lord to remember all that he suffered, and in the very next breath (Verses 2-5), David makes a solemn promise to the Lord, a vow to not let himself rest until a Temple is built to honor his Lord.

Even in, or around, or in remembrance of his suffering, David vowed and desired to esteem (love/honor/elevate) His Lord.

Was God blessed by David's heart?
Was the Lord moved by the transparency (Lord, remember David and all that he suffered.  ~Psalm 132:1) of David's words, and by David's honest desire to honor his Lord?

Oh, yes.

The Lord swore an oath to David with a promise he will never take back: “I will place one of your descendants on your throne.

(12) If your descendants obey the terms of my covenant and the laws that I teach them, then your royal line will continue forever and ever.”

(13) For the Lord has chosen Jerusalem; he has desired it for his home.
(14) “This is my resting place forever,” he said.
“I will live here, for this is the home I desired.

(15) I will bless this city and make it prosperous; I will satisfy its poor with food.
(16) I will clothe its priests with godliness; its faithful servants will sing for joy.

(17) Here I will increase the power of David; my anointed one will be a light for my people.
(18) I will clothe his enemies with shame, but he will be a glorious king.”  ~Psalm 132:11-17

Brothers and Sisters in Christ, can we sense the spiritual blessings that God bestows on David in these verses?  They are many and they are deep.

I sincerely feel the Lord grafting us in to these promises because (when we believe), He has grafted us in to His royal family line (Romans 11).

God's Words in Psalm 132 are not just for David...they are for all "David's".
For all of us who suffer, and yet still seek to honor God with our hearts, lives and efforts...oh, yes, the Lord has a word of encouragement and blessing for us today.

Psalm 132
(12)If your descendants obey the terms of my covenant and the laws that I teach them, then your royal line will continue forever and ever.”  (We will keep obeying, Father!!)

(13) For the Lord has chosen Jerusalem (us!!); he has desired it (us!!) for his home.
(14) “This is my resting place forever,” he said.
(He is with us forever!)

“I will live here, for this is the home I desired. (He desires us!!)

(15) I will bless this city and make it prosperous; I will satisfy its poor with food.
(He has promised us His good blessing, and He is DOING it!!  Today!  Believe Him for it today!!)

(16) I will clothe its priests with godliness; its faithful servants will sing for joy.
(Our Lord and our God will clothe us with every garment that we require to live holy and wholly for Him.
He will clothe us with His godliness and His joy.
Let's stay faithful, Brothers and Sisters.)

(17) Here I will increase the power of David; my anointed one will be a light for my people.
(Be a light, be a light, be a light today, Friends.  Though we may suffer...and also in the joys of triumph--be a light for God's people today.)

(18) I will clothe his enemies with shame, but he will be a glorious king.” (It will all be OK, and if we are for God, then He is for us.)

~~~
For David: his task and calling was to provide-for and plan a Temple to honor God.
For us: let's, (like David)-- prepare/provide/intend to build our Temple (heart) for honoring God.
David suffered in his life.  We will suffer in our lives too.
Are we?
David's heart and resolve was focused on honoring God.
Let this be us today.  Let's resolve and focus on honoring God today, even if we suffer.
And then what?
Blessing.
The promises of God's presence, protection, provision, and blessing in Psalm 132 are for us today!!
Blessings,
sarah
