I found it curious today in my Bible reading today that God called the mountains and hills to be our witnesses today. Is that odd?
Or do we discount that just as God created man (Adam) and from Adam...us, God also created and breathed life into all things: the mountains and the hills too.
And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. (10) God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good. ~Genesis 1:9-10
Or do we discount (in their value) that the mountains and hills were here long before us...and will be here long after we're gone?
God calls the mountains and hills to witness our complaints against Him, and just His authority and sovereignty in doing so demonstrates His power and rule over us and all things. (He asks parts of the geography to be witnesses! Only our Creator God could do that!)
What is our beef with God today? What are we frustrated with our Heavenly Father about?
And (with all due respect to our pain/trauma/struggle/sorrow/hurt): can we reconsider Whom our anger is directed at (if it is God).
Are we mad at God today? Frustrated?
The Lord (through His Word) is asking us to reconsider.
Listen to what the Lord is saying: “Stand up and state your case against me. Let the mountains and hills be called to witness your complaints.(2) And now, O mountains, listen to the Lord’s complaint! He has a case against his people. He will bring charges against Israel.(3) “O my people, what have I done to you? What have I done to make you tired of me? Answer me! ~Micah 6:1-3
In response to our ingratitude toward Him, the Lord (our Holy God) reminds (proves) His historical record of love, support, and provision to His people.
For I brought you out of Egypt and redeemed you from slavery. I sent Moses, Aaron, and Miriam to help you.
(5) Don’t you remember, my people, how King Balak of Moab tried to have you cursed and how Balaam son of Beor blessed you instead?
And remember your journey from Acacia Grove to Gilgal, when I, the Lord, did everything I could to teach you about my faithfulness.” ~Micah 6:4-5
God has a good and proven track record in supporting/being-there-for/saving His people...and if we need reminded of who and when...He is reminding us of a few documented occurences when He came through for His people.
Surely we have our own documented memories and testimonies of times when God showed up clearly for us, too.
But...do we?
Forgive us, Lord.
Love us, Lord.
Welcome us back and forgive our questioning of You, Father.
Cleanse us of our bitterness toward you, our waywardness from You, and our sin against You, Lord.
Knit our spirit back into harmony with Yours, Father.
What can we bring to the Lord? Should we bring him burnt offerings? Should we bow before God Most High with offerings of yearling calves?(7) Should we offer him thousands of rams and ten thousand rivers of olive oil? Should we sacrifice our firstborn children to pay for our sins? ~Micah 6:6-7
As the mountains and hills know--offerings and sacrifices are not what God wants from us today.
Come clean to Him today.
Come right, come merciful, come humbly to our God today.
No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. (9) Fear the Lord if you are wise! ~Micah 6:8-9
The mountains and hills know it, and (through God's Word), we do too. Let's do what is right today. Let's love mercy today. Let's walk humbly with our God today.
And the mountains and hills fear Him...we can/should/must also: Fear the Lord if you are wise!
Blessings,
