Happy Mother's Day!  And--how fitting...we have a new mom at our house.  A mama robin, and her babies just hatched.

I see her perched on the edge of her nest from time to time, her head peeking and pecking down into the nest and then she plops back down on her chicks.

I researched it, and robin chicks are born nearly naked (no feathers yet), with their eyes closed for a time,  and their skin is darker and translucent.  Also, they hatch hungry!

Simply speaking: the baby chicks are helpless in their first weeks, and are fully dependent on their robin-mom (and dad) until they learn to fly.

Sound like anyone else that we know?

Like us?

It's Mother's Day--have we thanked our mom's for all that they've done for us since birth?  We too were born helpless and fully dependent on our mother (and father).

And God (in His perfect plan) prescribed it that way.

And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.  ~Genesis 3:20

Thank you to our moms today, and to our Heavenly Father who carefully carved-out their role.  Our Lord designed the family structure on purpose with a father and mother, and with purpose for a father and mother.

And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.”  (24) Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.  ~Genesis 2:23-24

We wouldn't be here without our mother.

God designed and created our world and everything in it with order., and we praise Him today for the role of our moms, who birth us (no small feat!), and like that robin on my front porch, our Heavenly Father created our mothers to receive and raise us.   Our mother's perch and peck over us from the moment we are born, until we spread our wings and fly.

Thank you, Mom.

We lift these words today across the miles, across the room, into Heaven, and within our hearts.  Wherever our mother is today: we give thanks to her for all that she has done with and for us.  We speak gratitude today into our birth-mom's, our adoptive-mom's, and our spiritual-mom's.

We might still be blind and helpless today if it weren't for you.  Thank you, Mom.

And in a more grand sweep of gratitude for Mom's, we praise our Heavenly Father for His grand design across all species (including ours).  We praise the Lord for His circle and cycle of life and His plan for family.

“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.  ~Exodus 20:12

We were born like naked little chicks, but that was God's plan.
And He has good plans to clothe us in Christ and to live out His plans for our entire lives.  We may or may not have mothers that lead us in God's ways, but to each of His children, God gives His Word to govern us:

For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. (8) But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. (9)Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. (10) For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

(11) But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.

(12) Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.  ~I Timothy 6:7-12

Happy Mother's Day to the Moms.  And we praise the Lord for creating their role and their depth and their value to us.

May we be a blessing to our mother's name today.

Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her: (29) “Many daughters have done well, but you excel them all.”  ~Proverbs 31:28-29

May we seek to honor our mom's today and ultimately to honor our Heavenly Father today too:

Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old. (23) Buy the truth and do not sell it—wisdom, instruction and insight as well. (24) The father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him. (25) May your father and mother rejoice; may she who gave you birth be joyful!  ~Proverbs 23:22-25

May we bring joy to our Heavenly Father and our earthly mother by seeking and serving our King today.

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.  ~3 John 1:3

Happy Mother's Day!

Blessings,
