Are we feeling cursed today?
It's a harsh question and a blunt one, but...is it relevant to us today?
If we had to paint a picture of how we feel today...what we are experiencing...and what our current condition is: would a stunted shrub in the desert be pretty accurate?
Thirsting. Yearning. Dying.
..like stunted shrubs in the desert with no hope for the future. ~Jeremiah 17:6
Cursed is how we can feel when the woes of this world drag us to their depths. But we serve a God who has authority over all things, and over us. We can trust our Lord and rely on His strength--let's tell it to our minds and our hearts today:
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; (6) In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. ~Proverbs 3:5-6
We cannot rely on our own human strength or the strength of others. This is a farce and it will always fail us.
We can (only!) trust our Lord and rely on His strength. And we must.
We cannot trust and rely on the media, the politicians, the doctors, the science, the trends or mere humans. We cannot trust and rely on them.
If we do...we know what happens. (And we may be trapped in the curse of it today.) Our worries swell and our faith shrinks. Our questions and fears snowball, and our trust in God fizzles.
This is what the Lord says: “Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strength and turn their hearts away from the Lord.
(6) They are like stunted shrubs in the desert, with no hope for the future. They will live in the barren wilderness, in an uninhabited salty land. ~Jeremiah 17:5-6
Are we feeling cursed today, and stunted?
Are we living in the barren wilderness...of our mind, of this world...of human strength?
There is hope.. Hope for us today and hope for our future.
We (as children of God) are not cursed.
We (as children of God) are not stunted shrubs in the desert, with no hope for the future.
None of that applies to us as God's children. We must stop trusting in mere humans and in ourselves, and we must trust in God and His plans. With God we can have hope for the future because His plans for us are good.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. ~Jeremiah 29:11
This is God's Word and His promise over us today...NOT whatever lies might be tying us down and sucking-our-spirit, leaving us like stunted shrubs in the desert, with no hope for the future.
Brothers and Sisters, let's be reminded of what God speaks over and into us today. We HAVE a hope and a future.
We are not cursed and we are not like stunted shrubs in the desert.
We are blessed.
Brothers and Sisters---We have to remember today what God says about us. Not what we say about us. Not what the evil one whispers into our mind. Remember, be reminded, be strengthened-by, be freed by what our Heavenly Father says about us today.
We are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water.
We are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought.
We are NOT cursed...we are blessed.
“But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.
(8) They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit. ~Jeremiah 17:7-8
Believe the Truth today.
Leave the lies today.
Trust in the Lord today.
Make the Lord our hope and confidence today.
And we will be like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water today.
And we will not be bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought today.
And our leaves will stay green today.
Listen to the truth today: We are not cursed...we are blessed.
We are not like stunted shrubs in the desert...we are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water.
And our roots are fed by the Living Water of Jesus Christ. (Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” (39) By this he meant the Spirit... ~John 7:37-39).
May the Spirit of the Lord be upon us today, and may we trust in the Truth of God today. Amen.
Blessings,
