There is much that I do not understand in the Bible.  I do not and have never professed to be a Biblical scholar or more well-versed in Bible verses than you.

But I do love God's Word, the Bible.  And the way I approach and wake-up-for, and happily and hopefully anticipate the Bible each day is to read it, and to see what God says that I do understand.  And that I can figure out.  And that for that day and moment, God has written and given for me to receive and apply to my life and my heart.

Not that we shouldn't study the historical context of the Bible, or what Bible scholars and authorities say and explain to us.  This academic studying of the Bible helps us to understand even more about what was going on when it was written...and aids in our understanding.

But as we read the Bible day today, watch for what verse(s) stick out to us.  What strikes our heart as we read?  What penetrates our soul in the verse?

And something will.

Because that is why God gave His word to us-- promotions not for the history of it (although historical documents/ artifacts/and testimonies continue to prove the Bible's authenticity) but historical accuracy wasn't God's purpose or point.  We are.  You and me and every person choosing to open His Word today.  He has a (personalized) message for us.

His word is (absolutely) true, but much more than that...God's word is timely for us today.   Is intimately and specifically ready-to-be applied to our situation and feelings today.

The Bible is a living breathing document that God has given to us today to speak to us today.

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.  ~Hebrews 4:12

And so, let's open the Bible.  Let's see (and receive and chew-on, and obey) what God says to us today.

Each day is different, and each of us (and our circumstances) are different.  But God knows that.  God knows us.  God created us...fearfully and wonderfully, and He meets us today in His Word.  (For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. (14) I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.  ~Psalm 139:13-14)

And so, let's open the Bible.  Each of us face different things today, and although I don't know everything about the Bible, or everything about you, I do know this: God has a perfectly-applicable message in the Bible for us today.

Sift through and past the words/things/verses that we don't relate to today, and latch-on to what God says that we do.

He has a personalized message of truth, hope, love, grace, peace, comfort, discipline, salvation for us today.  It's all in there.  We just have to open the Bible and peruse His pages to find His love letter written just for us and just for today.

  • “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. (29) Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (30) For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”  ~Matthew 11:28-30
  • In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.  ~Genesis 1:1
  • For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  ~John 3:16
  • For God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for you Gentiles, too. And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory.  ~Colossian 1:27
  • The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.  My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.  ~Psalm 28:7
  • Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (7) And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  ~Philippians 4:6-7
  • So God created mankind in his own image,  in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them..  ~Genesis 1:27
  • So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.  ~Isaiah 41:10
  • You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.  ~Jeremiah 29:13

It's all in there.  We just have to open the Bible and peruse His pages to find His love letter written just for us and just for today.

Blessings,
