Corona Devo 7

These days are a bit surreal, aren’t they?

The news sputters updates about infection counts and closures but we ourselves are removed from any chaos of infection (I pray).  In fact, the societal halt is almost eerie.  There are no leisure public attractions to attend anymore, like movie theaters, or sports, (most) retail stores, or even the zoo.  There are very few cars on the road, because…where can we go?  A park for a hike, maybe.

It’s like we have this knowledge that the world continues to turn, but the pace and presence of people has completely changed.  We almost feel like we are standing still, in the middle of a world pandemic occurring around us.

It’s almost like, we are standing in the middle of a sea and the water has been pushed back on both sides.  Turbulence is out there, but we are separated from it.  It’s eerie, surreal, and unprecedented.

The image I mention here is unprecedented for us, and our daily events are partly physical, and quite a bit emotional and also spiritual.  What we are going through with the Coronavirus is all of these things.

But there was a group of people (the Israelites) who went through a true physical example of this, and they followed God’s path right through the turbulent waters.  And I believe that God offers us peace and hope through their story, because it can be our story as well.

Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen.  You led your people like a flock…  Psalm 77:19-20

Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters  ~Psalm 77:19

I admit that there is a “rest” to this time in our Nation right now, because almost all outside activities have been severed.  So, we have time on our side.  But with that addition also seems to come a cost.  The news media fills our time and minds with heavy winds and waves.  And although I often used to wish for “more time”, it is almost embarrassing to admit how difficult it can be to fill all of our free time in these days.  I love my family, but the complete restructuring of having no routine of school and possibly work is comparable to being tossed in the waves of the sea.

We need a path through the turbulent times and waters.  We need a way.  We need The Way: (Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. ~John 14:6)

Jesus leads us lovingly.  He leads us mightily and with purpose.  His purpose.  Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters  ~Psalm 77:19

We can have hope that his path is leading us through the sea of Corona chaos and worry and waves. His way leads us through the mighty waters.

If “mighty waters” are an accurate description about to your thoughts, worries, anxieties, fears and questions about today and tomorrow in relation to the Coronavirus and its effects—then take heart!
God knows our hearts (and worried minds), and he breathes these verses of (His) direction and protection into our lives.  Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters  ~Psalm 77:19

though your footprints were not seen.  You led your people like a flock…  Psalm 77:19-20

The hard part about Jesus is not seeing Him, or his footprints (physically).  We can’t speak to Him face to face like Moses did, or recline at a supper table with Him like the disciples did.  His physical footprints are not seen, but his spiritual presence is here.  His spiritual fingerprints are all over our lives.  If our (spiritual) eyes are open, we “see” many ways that His love and protection have shaped and blessed our lives.  And for you and me today—He is in the midst of this with us.

He’s all around us.  Have you felt Him?  Are you feeling Him?

You led your people like a flock…  Psalm 77:20

We are your people, Lord.  We are your sheep.  You are our shepherd.  (We are his people, the sheep of his pasture. ~Psalm 100:3).  A shepherd cares for his flock.  He protects them, and watches over them.  He leads them and feeds them, and searches for any one that wanders away.  He is leading us through this Corona mess.  He wants us to rest in His sovereignty and his Divinity.  God is bigger than the Coronavirus and He is leading us through the turbulent waters.

We are going to be okay!  We have a Heavenly Shepherd who has a path for us through the sea and the mighty waters.

Your path led through the (Coronavirus) sea, your way through the (anxiety and fear of) mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen.  You led your people like a flock…  Psalm 77:19-20

He is leading us today!
Blessings,
sarah
