Corona Devo 130
Does anyone else have any "panoramic" photos tucked in amongst bags or boxes of old family pictures? I am not sure if it was the late 90's or early 2000's when our family "got into" them, but we have a number of l-o-n-g photos and they are unique in that they encompass much more terrain than any normal photo ever could. They are horizontal and capture the collective beauty of a scene in a way that seems to tell the whole story, where as a regular picture might just tell a chapter.
God's perspective and sovereignty (supreme authority) over our days and our lives is the same. He sees our "big picture", whereas it is so easy (and understandable) for us to get stuck in today as if it's a freeze-frame.
We can trust God and the outcome that He has for our days.
We cannot see the full "panoramic" of our lives, but God can, and it is not His plan for us to spend our days in worry and fear. Or frustration.
So many unprecedented things are happening in our world today, and it stirs up questions, conspiracies, and even Biblical prophecies. We are overwhelmed because our "single picture" of today has a lot of unanswered questions, and there is so much that we don't know. But we can gain perspective and peace from God and what we do know from His word.
7 For God did not give us a spirit of fear. He gave us a spirit of power and of love and of a good mind. ~2 Timothy 1:7
7 For God did not give us a spirit of fear. He gave us a spirit of power and of love and of a good mind. ~2 Timothy 1:7
It's hard to tell someone (or ourselves) to "not be afraid". Try that with a toddler who wakes up with a nightmare. Try that with many of us during the invisible threat and breath of Corona breathing down our necks. Try that with the financial and economic downturn of the past few months and how that translates when our bills come due. There is no denying that fear is real.
However, God's word does not deny that fear exists in us; but instead the Lord reminds us that He did not give us a spirit of fear. Absorb the difference. There are things that will cause us to be afraid, but God has put His spirit within our hearts and souls to transform our reaction from fear into power and of love...and a good mind.
For many of us, our minds have not been "good' throughout the months of Corona. And it is a bit like a roller coaster ride. Many minds worry about the risk of death and infection. Many minds worry about finding truth in the news projected by the media. Many minds worry about the fragmenting of our society as a result of stress and division of opinion.
But the Lord reminds, reassures and reaffirms that God did not give us a spirit of fear. He gave us a spirit of power and of love and of a good mind. ~2 Timothy 1:7
Yes, the world and our lives are upside-down in some ways, but God gives us a spirit of power and of love and of a good mind. I know that I keep repeating this, but I truly believe that many of need to memorize this. Get a tattoo? Start to believe this, so that we can move out of any spirit of fear, and into the properties of the spirit that God gives us: power, love, sound minds.
What would change in our hour/our day/our lives if we operated with these properties fueling our spirit instead of fear?
God holds the panoramic view of our lives. He purposed our births and He also knows upon what day we will step out of this world and into his eternal Heaven, but that information is not public, or revealed to us. He is GOD...He gets the panoramic, we get the snapshot.
This is not good or bad, it just is, and today we can make the choice to live for Him, and not for fear or worry. Those two get us nowhere, but we sure choose to hang out with them alot.
Let's hang with God today and let His spirit (within us) of power, love, and sound mind give us a panoramic view of today and the things that we face.
Blessings,
sarah
