(1) Those who trust in the Lord are as secure as Mount Zion; they will not be defeated but will endure forever.
(2) Just as the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people, both now and forever.
(3) The wicked will not rule the land of the godly, for then the godly might be tempted to do wrong.
(4) O Lord, do good to those who are good, whose hearts are in tune with you.  ~Psalm 125:1-5

Those who trust in the Lord are as secure as Mount Zion...  (Psalm 125:1)
Lord, we DO trust in You!  I love Your word and how it grounds me in an ever-changing cultural climate and my fickle emotional climate too!  I trust in You, and the flip side of that (this verse proclaims), is your promise of my security.
We are secure when we are with You, Lord.  The opposite of security is insecurity.  Comparing ourselves to the world and others brings insecurity, but trusting in you and our wholeness in You brings us security.

(1) Those who trust in the Lord are as secure as Mount Zion; they will not be defeated but will endure forever.  ~Psalm 125:1
Lord, in you we find security, and also--we will not be defeated--we will endure forever.  This world has challenges, struggles, up-hill climbs for us, but when we trust in You, we have Your strength within us to help us endure.  To tolerate, to allow, to make it through these days, these times, these years.  Strength to endure today, and (God says) forever.

(2) Just as the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people, both now and forever.  ~Psalm 125:2
The Lord surrounds us--if we realize this and allow ourselves to be surrounded by Him--He calms us, He protects us.  I need both.  Like mountains surrounding Jerusalem, the Lord is a wall around us, shielding us.  Mountains are impenetrable.  So is the Lord our God.
Are there things, situations, people and pressures pushing in on you and your emotional state-of-being?  Take solace and strength in the truth that the Lord surrounds us!

(3) The wicked will not rule the land of the godly, for then the godly might be tempted to do wrong.  ~Psalm 125:3
I want to cling to this verse as a promise.  Sometimes is seems that wicked people are winning out in this world.  But God knows better and knows all.  Jesus already defeated the evil of this world at the cross, and even though we have trials on earth, Jesus holds a place for us in heaven when our time comes.  And in heaven, the wicked will not rule.  In the meantime, let's pray for our leaders "ruling the land", and also for our steadfastness in not being tempted to do wrong.

The other angle that I see applying to our lives in this verse is that we should not get "caught up" in all of the worldly wickedness going on around us.  The ways of the world and the ungodly choices that others make does not have to affect our lives.  We can choose our own path and do our  best not to be "tempted to do wrong".  The ways of the world, our neighbors and "friends" do not have to "rule our land".  We have choices.

(4) O Lord, do good to those who are good, whose hearts are in tune with you.  ~Psalm 125:4
Lord, we want to be included in this verse!  "Do good to those who are good".  Even though I feel unworthy about putting myself in that group of "those who are good", I know Your word says that we are good, if we accept You, repent of our sins, and follow You as best we can.  We are trying to do just that, day by day.
...do good to those...whose hearts are in tune with you.  ~Psalm 125:5
Lord, I desperately want my heart to be in tune with Yours.  Unhappiness and discontent fill me when I am not in tune with You.  My heart gets clouded with other ideas or ideals, and there is no harmony in my mind, my sprit, my actions or my days.

Line up my heart with Yours, Lord.  Let our hearts be in tune with you.  I am at my best when this is the case.  We are firing on all cylinders for you, Lord--when our hearts are in tune with You.
In harmony with you, Lord.
In tune with You, making a melody out of our lives with you, perfectly matched up with what Your plan for us is.
