Corona Devo 203

I've seen a bald eagle a few times in my life: Alaska, Missouri, Medina(!) and the other day coasting in an arc around a lake until it alighted on the top-most branch of a leafless tree.  Each and every time it is a majestic, breath-taking experience for me, right up there with viewing a rainbow.  Bald eagles are at the top of the chain in terms of fowl-forms, if you ask me.  Their size and the power in their wingspan and glide fills me with awe.  What must it feel like to soar on wings like theirs?

And many days I would like to.  Today, for example.  The hamster-wheel of life keeps turning and there seem to be so many hamsters running without any direction at all.  People have invented their own truth these days and created their own moral base, neither of which have any ties to God and the Book He wrote on truth and morality.

Yes, I'd like to fly away some days. The view down here is getting very cloudy.  And one must have eagle-eyes to see straight, because the back and forth debate of society, media and government is exhausting.

We are straining for hope and direction in a world where hope has been silently leaking out of many hearts and lives over the past Year.  We need a restart and to be refreshed.  And most of all, we need something to stop the madness.  To stop the sadness.  To stop the drain of hope.  We need something, or someone.  Do you know of anyone?  Have you heard of anyone?

28 Do you not know?  Have you not heard?  The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.  He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.

29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.  ~Isaiah 40:28-31

There is One who provides strength to those of us who are tired.  And He never grows tired.  He created the earth, and He understands the internal workings of nature, the universe and us.  And while we cannot make sense of the world around us sometimes, there is nothing beyond His understanding: his understanding no one can fathom.

The Lord sees our fatigue caused by schedules, Corona and stress, and He draws us near.  God senses our spirits drooping and He promises renewal.  I will take Him up on that today!

And in Christ, there is not just a lifting of spirits, there is a "soaring on eagle's wings".  God places us (verbally) aflight.  We can coast above the idiosyncrasies of this world on the strong and wide wings of the Lord.  Sometimes only in "rising above" the day-to-day situations that drain us, can we regain perspective and breathe in some desperately needed fresh air.  The Lord is that breath of fresh air into our hearts.

They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.  ~Isaiah 40:31

The image of this verse is majestic and powerful, just like an eagle.  Let's picture ourselves soaring on wings like eagles.  That's not how I felt earlier, but God has a way of lifting us when we spend time with Him, and indeed, I can feel the wind rushing and distance gathering between me and my struggles as I soak in His Word.

Lord, we pray that you would lift us up on Your wings today.  Allow us to run through our days, plans, and prayers without growing weary.  Slow us down to walk with another today, and to walk through an experience, instead of rushing our way into the next one.  Let us walk (enjoy, take notice) and not be faint.

I always keep my eyes peeled in hopes of spotting another bald eagle.  They are rare.  But having our strength renewed by God doesn't have to be a rare occasion.  It can be majestic and powerful and even breath-taking, and it can be today.

Blessings,

 sarah
