Perhaps there are children that admire the blaze of color-glory in the sunrise and sunset, but mine never seem to care very much. And to be honest, I am not sure that I did at their age. One of the ways that I know I am aging is because I delight so much in the pink and orange curtain that is pulled wider across the horizon as dawn breaks or dusk sets. Perhaps because I am old I am enthused by God's morning and evening creation in the skies, but could it be that with age also comes wisdom in appreciating such things?
Because can anyone (truthfully) deny the intelligent creation of our universe, galaxies, and heavens? The longer I live, the more convinced I become of God's sovereignty over creation, and thus over me.
Psalm 19 connects God's heavenly realms arched high above our heads to His perfect Law in the Bible, which arches over our lives. In perfection and with supreme knowledge God created both with purpose and for our enjoyment and betterment.
Psalm 19
1 The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship.
2 Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known.
3 They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard.
4 Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world. God has made a home in the heavens for the sun.
5 It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding. It rejoices like a great athlete eager to run the race.
6 The sun rises at one end of the heavens and follows its course to the other end. Nothing can hide from its heat. ~Psalm 19:1-6
If you have not carved out time for a sunrise or sunset lately, make a point to do it. Crawling out from under the covers before dawn won't kill you, and the visual (and possibly spiritual) reward will be palpable. The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship (Psalm 19:1). We have the opportunity twice a day to witness God's craftmanship--let's "listen with our eyes" to what the heavens are proclaiming.

7 The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.
8 The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are clear, giving insight for living.
9 Reverence for the Lord is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the Lord are true; each one is fair.
10 They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb.
11 They are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who obey them. ~Psalm 19:7-11
If we are looking for a way to summarize how the Bible applies to our lives, or to describe it "in a nutshell": here it is. The phrases are concise, simple, and drenched in truth: God's Truth. The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. Can I get an "Amen"? This is why we turn to His Word each day--God REVIVES us daily by His word. Does anyone else need reviving? His reviving Word is why I set my alarm each morning! There is no revival in our lives without God's word.

12 How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults.
13 Keep your servant from deliberate sins! Don’t let them control me. Then I will be free of guilt and innocent of great sin. ~Psalm 19:12-13
Because of who we are and who God is: we can't get too close to Him without acknowledging what separates us from Him: our sin. Even sin hidden or lurking within us that we may not be aware of. But God reveals our inadequacies and draws us nearer to Him as we seek to shed our shortcomings and become more like Him. If we are willing, He will cleanse us. Let's pray in unison with the Psalmist today, "Cleanse me from these hidden faults...Don’t let them control me"(Psalm 19:12-13).
And may our words and prayers lifted to God and in His name be worthy to Him. Let our hearts be clean as we pray them and let God continue to cleanse us even as we speak to Him and live for Him today. We want to be a blessing to God, and sin (in word, thought or deed) keeps us from pleasing God.
14 May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer. ~Psalm 19:14
Psalm 19 connects God's heavenly realms arched high above our heads to His perfect Law in the Bible, which arches over our lives. Today, whether we sense God through a gorgeous sunrise or sunset, or if we hear Him whisper to our heart through the words of Scripture: Let us be encouraged and motivated.
There is no revival in our lives without God's word. He is our rock and (our) redeemer (Psalm 19:14).
Blessings,
