Sometimes the scenarios in our lives can put us in a trance.  It's like we can't see or hear the Truth of God above the din because for whatever reason (or for many reasons), we have become separated from the reality that God has power over our situation and that He can break the "trance" that we might be in.

I don't know about you, but I am sick of being in the catatonic state (an immobile or unresponsive stupor) that many Americans are living in.  It started last year with the fear instituted in us about Corona, and the separation from friends, family, activities and everything "normal" that we had previously known in our lives.

From there it seemed to spring-board into the election scenario that currently has much of our Nation at a standstill.  And in between, we each have "life" going on: kids in and out of "attending" school, elderly isolated in nursing homes, the day-to-day attempt to function normally and healthily in our marriages and families, and our pursuit of life, liberty and happiness as an American.  All of this has not only taken it's toll on us, but it is rendering some of us useless.

Some are in the trance of isolation.  They have removed themselves (as much as possible) from the altered-public-experience that now exist in stores and public places.  But the attempt to minimize living with others (isolating) is not God's answer to casting out the ideas and realities that are plaguing us.  We crave community, and we function best with the encouragement and accountability of others.

The external (and mental/spiritual) situations have made some of us angry.  We may not be throwing ourselves to the ground, or foaming at the mouth physically, but these phrases explain how we are feeling inside, and the anger and frustration that has welled up with us.  And some of us are reacting physically.  Physical harm to ourselves, to others, or to others property is not God's answer in casting out the ideas and realities that are plaguing us.

But what is the answer?

Some things are too big for an intellectual answer or even a rational answer.  For many of the problems swirling around us, we are hoping for a silver bullet to cure us, whether that means hanging our hopes on a vaccine, or a truth-bomb to explode about the actual-vote-tally.  But I make a motion that none of these "physical" answers are going to do the trick for the battles occurring right now in ourselves and our Nation.

What is the answer for driving out the evil that holds us in trances of fear, anger, immobility and hopelessness?

Jesus tells us the answer: “This kind can come out only by prayer.”  ~Matthew 9:29

An account in Matthew tells the story of us.  Matthew 9 tells of our current state of emotions, of the trance that many are trapped in, and of the lack-of-power that traditional methods hold over the battles that we are facing right now in our Nation and our hearts.  At other times, and in other situations, the solutions could be concrete, or logical (and have been).  But God's word reminds us in a timely fashion for today that our "solution" and ridding-of-current-evil is only possible through prayer.

17 A man in the crowd answered, “Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit that has robbed him of speech. 18 Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not.”

19 “You unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.”

20 So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth.

21 Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?”

“From childhood,” he answered. 22 “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”

23 “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”

24 Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”

25 When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene, he rebuked the impure spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” he said, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”

26 The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, “He’s dead.” 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him to his feet, and he stood up.

28 After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”

29 He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer.”  ~Matthew 9:17-29

Jesus is very clear about how this extreme-spirit will be removed.  The disciples had tried to cast it out by word and from their training, but couldn't do it.  We are trying to win our battles the same way, but like the disciples, we are falling short, and the issues remain.  We simply cannot conquer in our own strength.  Jesus instructs us-- there are some situations that are bigger than a recount or a vaccine.  We are in that situation, Brothers and Sisters.  If you have not sensed this, are still trying to isolate or "fix things on your own", or if you are stuck in a trance: open your eyes.

Our Nation is in an intense spiritual battle and there are evil spirits vying for control of not-only our political landscape, but much more, and it is sucking the life out of us.  The offensive protocol will surprise you because it is not war, protest, signatures, recounts or vaccines.   “This kind can come out only by prayer.”  ~Matthew 9:29

God is willing.  He wants full and abundant life for His children.

Let's get on our knees, Friends.  Do not remain in a trance or sit waiting for a surprise solution any longer.  “This kind can come out only by prayer.”  ~Matthew 9:29
