Have we forgotten that we are special to God?

The chores stack up, the bills keep coming, laundry is never finished, and some days we digress into wondering "What's the point?".

These feelings are errant and they stem from forgetting that we are blessed.  God has a plan for every human created and born.  (He created us and the miracle of birth!)

When our daily demands, schedule, stress or worries strap us down...God's blessing on our lives releases us!  Knowing that we are His people brings freedom from the monotony, and His blessing is intentional and encompassing over our lives.

(22) Then the Lord said to Moses, (23) “Tell Aaron and his sons to bless the people of Israel with this special blessing: (Numbers 6:22-23)

The people of Israel were those following after God and seeking to pattern their lives after His ways.  We too are the "people of Israel".

The Israelites were sojourning through the wilderness because God had a plan for them (and they chose to follow Him).  They were headed for the Promised Land.

We too are sojourning through the wilderness-of-the-world (society/politics/relationships/pain/injustice).  God has a plan for us (if we choose to follow Him).  We too are headed for the Promised Land.

As-they-journeyed/during-the-trek/in-the-middle-of-the-long haul: God says to bless (His) people...with this special blessing: (Numbers 6:23)

(24) ‘May the Lord bless you and protect you.

(25) May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you.

(26) May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.’

(27) Whenever Aaron and his sons bless the people of Israel in my name, I myself will bless them.”  ~Numbers 6:24-27

Do these words being spoken over you today change things?  I pray that they would lighten our burden, soften our sharp corners, and loosen the straps that are binding us.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
May the Lord bless you and protect you (Numbers 6:24).  The Lord speaks His blessing and protection over us today.  We are blessed and protected by Him right now.
In our endeavors today, whether child-rearing, number-crunching, sales, or keeping-home: God proclaims His blessing and protection over us.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you (Numbers 6:25).  In the crunch of time and responsibilities, we can mistakenly paint God into a critical and angry overseer.  Our stress distorts our understanding and acceptance of God.  But this verse paints a more accurate portrait: May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you.  God loves us.  We smile on our children and are gracious to them.  Our Heavenly Father told the priests (men of God) to share these words of blessing with His people (smile...gracious).  He seeks to smile on us and be gracious to us.  He is a good, good Father and God seeks goodness for us.

May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace (Numbers 6:26).

May we be open and receptive to God's favor in our lives today.  Let's slow down and talk to Jesus.  Let's stop grumbling long enough to look around at all that we have, right here, right now, today.  Part of experiencing God's favor may be the simple act of recognizing God's favor .

And may He show it.  Watch for God's favor.  Expect the best.  Be joyful in hope (Romans 12:12).

May the Lord...give you his peace (Numbers 6:26).

If I boil it all down, this is what I crave.  I have found that true peace is only attainable from God.  And only in sitting at His feet can we grasp what His peace is and how it can fill us.  We try to be filled with so many other things, and none of them bring peace.  God speaks His blessing over us today, and gives us His peace.

And how often is God's blessing available to us?  Whenever Aaron and his sons bless the people of Israel in my name, I myself will bless them.” (Numbers 6:27).

"Aaron and his sons" were priestly go-betweens to serve the people and bring their requests and offerings to God.  When Jesus went to the cross for us He changed all that.  Priests and pastors certainly still bring us the Word of God and its application into our lives, but Jesus bridged the gap between us and God.  We can speak to God directly through prayer, and in the process of coming humbly before the Lord, the final part of these verses is activated.  Whenever...I myself will bless them.”

How about today, Lord?

Even as we journey/during-the-trek/in-the-middle-of-the-long haul: God says to bless (His) people...with this special blessing: (Numbers 6:23)

When our daily demands, schedule, stress or worries strap us down...God's blessing on our lives releases us!  Knowing that we are His people brings freedom.

All of us are sojourning through the wilderness-of-the-world, but God has a plan and special blessing for us (if we choose to follow Him).

(24) ‘May the Lord bless you and protect you.

(25) May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you.

(26) May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.’  (Numbers 6:24-26)
