(1) I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from him.

(2) He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken.

(5) Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him.

(6) He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken.  ~Psalm 62:1-2, 5-6

I wait quietly before God... (Psalm 62:1)

I.  I do not have control over others.  Not my husband, not my children, not my boss, not other drivers, not teachers/coaches, not the government, not other people's mask/vaccine/political decisions.  I do not have control over what will occur tomorrow or what will pop up today.  But we do have control over ourselves.  And that is what God is concerned with: us.  I wait quietly before God...

I.

I wait quietly before God... (Psalm 62:1)

wait quietly. Hard to do. Especially in the lives we have fashioned/created/orchestrated/and scheduled around ourselves. Waiting quietly is almost unheard of. In children and in adults, in any situation, and especially before God, waiting quietly must be a purposed choice and an act-of-will.

Today. Right now: stop. Be still and wait quietly before God (Psalm 62:1). Because if we will wait quietly before the Lord, He will direct us. He will speak to us, He will convict us, He will soften us, He will "talk" to us. But it is dependant on us waiting quietly.

And we only have to worry about "us". We can stop worrying about everyone else. Indeed, we must stop worrying about everyone else. There is no victory/was never any victory/and there will never be victory in worrying about other people's choices and decisions. Change and transformation begins individually, and only when we wait quietly before God. And the blessing is that the discipline of wait(ing) quietly before God is personal, but so is our victory! It will be personal. And our victory comes from him (Psalm 62:1).

I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from him. (Psalm 62:1)

Why do we keep looking for victory in everything else? In accolades, in work, in achievements, in our children's achievements, in status, in approval, in money, in pleasure, in self. I am saying this outloud as my Truth and direction for today: my victory comes from him. Let's let that truth change us, and change our quest for victory. It only comes from Him.

He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken. ~Psalm 62:2

If we are looking for stability today (and who isn't?), here it is. God alone is our rock, salvation, and fortress.

He alone is my rock... ~Psalm 62:2

He is our rock. He is immovable, solid, strong, and He can hold our weight. There is nothing push-over about our God and all of the ways, depths and sturdiness to His love and support for us. He is with us for the long-haul and we can trust His firm foundation. He alone is my rock (Psalm 62:2).

He alone is my...salvation ~Psalm 62:2

God saved us. Our good works did not save us. Our parents' faith did not save us. Karma did not save us. Good luck did not save us. He alone is my...salvation (Psalm 62:2). This is so critical to grasp, and is the foundation of our lives as Christ followers. And once we absorb this truth--we can rejoice in it! He alone is my...salvation(!) We are saved and free in Christ. We can stop searching for happiness/acceptance/love from the world and people. They will never "save" us. Instead of "saving" us, they will "waste" us everytime. He alone is my...salvation (Psalm 62:2). Rejoice in this Truth today!

He alone is my...fortress ~Psalm 62:2

We want protection. We want a safe place. We want a stronghold. This world attacks us on all levels and we need a fortress. He alone is it. In becoming followers of Christ, our lives are sealed with the protection of God and it will escort us right into heaven at our appointed time. And while here on earth, God's Word will guide and protect us. His Law is a fortress that we build around our hearts, minds and lives. Nothing else can protect us from the bombardments of sin, but we do have a fortified place: He alone is my...fortress ~Psalm 62:2

It is not out of relapse that Psalm 62 repeats (almost verbatim) the ideas of waiting quietly before God and that our victory and hope are in Him. It is not a coincidence that twice it states that God alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken.

There is purpose in everything that God and His Word says, and there is always meaning in purpose
