Psalm 65 (1) What mighty praise, O God, belongs to you in Zion. We will fulfill our vows to you, (2) for you answer our prayers. All of us must come to you. ~Psalm 65:1-2

Lord, we stop for a moment in the midst of our daily madness to praise You. Our focus, credit and praise belongs to You, O God. You are worthy and holy and You are ours: O God. Today let us give you what You are due. Let us fulfill our vows of love/service/faith to You, O God. Because You hear us, because You see who we truly are, and because you answer our prayers.

(3) Though we are overwhelmed by our sins, you forgive them all. ~Psalm 65:3

Like sand poured through our fingers, we cannot hold on to the depth of this Truth. We grasp it for a moment, but the magnitude of Your grace is unintelligible, O God. Our sin, and the overwhelming nature of it is palpable, tangible...suffocating at times. That part I get. Old sin resurfaces, new sin entices--and we wonder in shame if you could forgive any of them. You forgive them all.

(4) What joy for those you choose to bring near, those who live in your holy courts. What festivities await us inside your holy Temple. (5) You faithfully answer our prayers with awesome deeds, O God our savior. ~Psalm 65:4-5

These ideas and images are personalized within our daily lives as we draw near to You, Lord. In You are joy, festivities and awesome deeds. You have chosen us, and we chose You, O God. Today we seek and we claim the joy You promise for those you choose to bring near and we will do our best this day to live in your holy courts.

You are the hope of everyone on earth, even those who sail on distant seas. ~Psalm 65:5

Lord, You are the hope of everyone on earth, even us.

Even those...And you know that we are those who have sailed on distant seas. Forgive us, and we thank You for Your forgiveness. Your hope is available to us, even us. You are the hope of the sinner and the hope of the saint. Call us back home to You today from the distant seas and revive us with Your hope.

(6) You formed the mountains by your power and armed yourself with mighty strength. ~Psalm 65:6

What is mightier/stronger/more immoveable than a mountain, and yet You formed the mountains, O God. You are mightier than the mountains we face today, and you have dominion over us and them. Our troubles are not trouble to You, Lord. We are protected today by You and Your mighty strength.

(7) You quieted the raging oceans with their pounding waves and silenced the shouting of the nations. ~Psalm 65:7

Quiet the raging oceans and pounding waves of worry/anxiety/fear/guilt/pain/anger and unloveliness within us today, O God. You see the damage of life's raging oceans and pounding waves on us and our hearts. We are being pummelled. But You quiet the rage and pounding. O God, you silenced the shouting of the nations, and you can silence the noise in our minds. Bring Your quiet and silence to our spirits today, Lord.

(8) Those who live at the ends of the earth stand in awe of your wonders. From where the sun rises to where it sets, you inspire shouts of joy. ~Psalm 65:8

Lord, today I pray that we would step away from the insignificant things distracting us from You and that we would step toward You. If those who live at the ends of the earth stand in awe of your wonders, surely we also can be awestruck. Open our eyes and soften our hearts, Lord: From where the sun rises to where it sets, you inspire shouts of joy. Let this be our disposition today.

(9) You take care of the earth and water it, making it rich and fertile. ~Psalm 65:9

Lord, take care of us today, making us rich and fertile as conduits to share your Word and hope with others.

The river of God has plenty of water; it provides a bountiful harvest of grain, for you have ordered it so. ~Psalm 65:9

O God, provide a bountiful harvest of grain in our lives, but more specifically: in our hearts. Make us aware of the bounty You provide and appreciative of it. Joyful in it!

(10) You drench the plowed ground with rain, melting the clods and leveling the ridges. You soften the earth with showers and bless its abundant crops. ~Psalm 65:10

Father, drench us with Your covering and protection. Where we have pain, problems, difficult situations or people: melt the clods and level the ridges. We can't do this life without You. Please soften the earth of our relationships and circumstances with showers and bless its abundant crops.

(11) You crown the year with a bountiful harvest; even the hard pathways overflow with abundance. ~Psalm 65:11

Gracious God, You alone know the hard pathways that we each have trodden, or that have trodden over us. You were and are with us on the hard pathways and we accept and reach with exhausted spirits for Your promised bountiful harvest. In Your wisdom and in Your time: may we experience our hard pathways transitioning into the joy of abundant overflow.

(12) The grasslands of the wilderness become a lush pasture, and the hillsides blossom with joy. (13) The meadows are clothed with flocks of sheep, and the valleys are carpeted with grain. They all shout and sing for joy! ~Psalm 65:12-13

O God! Your blessings, Your provision and Your specific-care of us and the details of our lives are evidenced in your intricate care of the seasons and the harvest and the living world around us.

We revel in the bounty of Your Word and Your promises over us today: lush, blossom, clothed, carpeted. Lord, Your love for us is thick and rich and lush. You pour and provide it over us in a million ways, from the glory of a sunrise to the gift of a best friend.

What mighty praise, O God, belongs to you...They all shout and sing for joy! ~Psalm 65:1, 13
