"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (20) and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” ~Matthew 28:19-20

We know this verse and we are challenged to live it out with our lives--"making disciples" by whatever means of influence the Lord has given us with others.

We get it. We want to step up to it. And in our own circles of people and situations, we have and we do teach them to obey everything (God) has commanded...

We do it silently and by example as we make Biblically-based choices in our days and lives.

We do it as parents, coaches, teachers, bosses, family-members, employees and friends.

I do it through these devotionals each day.

You do it when you share Jesus with anyone seeking Him.

But God reminds us today about the sobriety (seriousness/gravityand importance of our task in "making disciples". (Not that we cannot "enjoy" bringing Jesus to others--we can! And Jesus is no killjoy--He delights in His children and in wanting to bless them.)

But in accepting the assignment to go and make disciples of all nations, we also have accepted the privilege and responsibility of bringing God's commands to others. There is a weight to this, and once-in-a-while it is good for us to realize freshly that we bear-a-burden when sharing the name of Christ with others. It is a privilege, yes, but we must shoulder it with a (somber) awareness that it is God's Name and glory that we are representing. We must be cognizant of the onus on us when sharing God's Word. We won't be perfect in this, and God gives us pause to reflect on that today.

Today is a good day for our hearts to be pricked in once-in-a-while awareness of our necessity to repent, and to acknowledge the seriousness involved in serving God and representing Him.

We want to serve God fully, purely, and uninfluenced by the world, our pride, and others. But O God, you know....

O God, you know how foolish I am; my sins cannot be hidden from you. (6) Don’t let those who trust in you be ashamed because of me, O Sovereign Lord of Heaven’s Armies. Don’t let me cause them to be humiliated, O God of Israel. ~Psalm 69:5-6

You know who we are: You know how foolish I am; my sins cannot be hidden from you (Psalm 69:5).

We are drawn to You, Lord, and yet we are "foolish" and sinful at times. We make mistakes, we misinterpret, and we become passionate about the wrong things; things that are not Your things, or Your commands. Anything that is not rooted in You should not take root in our hearts, and help us today, Lord, to not teach (others) to obey anything except what You have commanded.

Father, Let Your holy renown cover our foolishness and sin. Let Your message, Your love, Your purpose for us and for others rise to the top of our message and of who we are when representing You, Lord.

Lord, bringing Your Word, Your hope and Your Truth to others is a privilege. Let us not defame or mar Your Holy Name or purposes. Be glorified, God!

Allow our lives to be a sincere prayer that we seek to live out in service to You.

Forgive us, Lord, when we are off-base or distracted from Your Purposes. Forgive and correct us if we are influencing others errantly for You.

We love You. We long to please You and to connect others to You, Father. Equip us to go and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19). You are the dream/the inspiration/the reasoning that provides meaning and hope to our quick-existence here on Earth. Heavenly Father--Don't let us screw that up for anyone! Help us to make our lives count for You! Be glorified, Lord. Please do not let those who trust in you be ashamed because of me (Psalm 69:6).

Be glorified, Lord! In any and all ways that You allow in our lives, let others be drawn to You and introduced to You. Create a fresh purity in us and in our service to You today, Father.

Amen.
