When we've been hoping and praying for something and it comes through/it happens/we-receive-the-blessing, there is a rush of gratitude and a boost of faith. In this demonstration of faith, God is good!

However, when necessary, God's word can also jostle our hearts into conviction as He reveals our stubbornness, which can be the root cause of what is keeping us from moving forward in what God has around the bend for us. In this demonstration of faith (also), God is good!

The Lord created the world and everything in it all belongs to Him. But out of all of it, we are His prized possession, the beings that He chose to favor. But what is blocking our way to Him today?

Perhaps our stubbornness.

“Look, the highest heavens and the earth and everything in it all belong to the Lord your God. (15) Yet the Lord chose your ancestors as the objects of his love. And he chose you, their descendants, above all other nations, as is evident today. (16) Therefore, change your hearts and stop being stubborn. ~Deuteronomy 10:14-16

What are we being stubborn about today? What is causing stubbornness in our hearts?

Sometimes for me it is exhaustion or being worn-out from life. The have-to's/the chores/the non-negotiables that wear-you-down over time: I get tired and my heart gets stubborn.

Other people's priorities or decisions can cause our hearts to be stubborn. We would do-it-differently, and therefore we build a wall whose bricks are made from stubbornness.

Everyday idols in our lives can blind our hearts to God's will because we get off-track worshiping them instead of Him. Our priorities and desires get off track, and we can become stubborn with God and at God because we are caught up in false idols and we are turning our faces and hearts away from Him.

What are we being stubborn about today? What is causing stubbornness in our hearts?

Therefore, change your hearts and stop being stubborn. ~Deuteronomy 10:14-16

It's easy to get caught up in ourselves and become stubborn. But it is also easy to get-back-on-track with God. The Truth of Who God is and the love He has for us will melt an icy, stubborn heart everytime. Today, let us change our hearts and stop being stubborn and remember Who God is:

(17) “For the Lord your God is the God of gods and Lord of lords. He is the great God, the mighty and awesome God, who shows no partiality and cannot be bribed... ~Deuteronomy 10:17

This is powerful language about our all-powerful God! Whatever we are being stubborn about pales in comparison to who He is. We need to get over ourselves today, and get into God.

who shows no partiality and cannot be bribed... ~Deuteronomy 10:17

Which one of us wants to admit to bargaining with God? Pleading with Him? Even promising "our results" if God will "do His part" to answer our prayer. Even for the most pure prayer requests, this is not how our God works. In fact, our attempt at "bribing" Him reveals (once again) our stubbornness in understanding and accepting who He is. Let us remember and be freshly-in-awe of the Truth that the Lord your God is the God of gods and Lord of lords. He is the great God, the mighty and awesome God, who shows no partiality and cannot be bribed (Deuteronomy 10:17).

God is good, He is great, mighty and awesome! And so whatever the cause of our stubbornness (which separates us from God), we must choose to step away from it today. We must commit to shedding our stubbornness and declaring a fresh allegiance to God and His plans for us.

(20) You must fear the Lord your God and worship him and cling to him. Your oaths must be in his name alone. (21) He alone is your God, the only one who is worthy of your praise, the one who has done these mighty miracles that you have seen with your own eyes. ~Deuteronomy 10:20-21

Our God is jealous for our commitment to Him. He cannot fulfill His promises for us if our hearts are divided by stubbornness. He will root out the competing element, or we will sacrifice our intimacy with Him as we cater to alternate idols.

Whatever the cause of our stubbornness, God is the cure. You must fear the Lord your God and worship him and cling to him (Deuteronomy 10:21). I love the idea and image of us clinging to God today. We cling to alot of other things that let us down, never satisfy and lead to nothing.

Today, let's change our hearts and stop being stubborn (Deuteronomy 10:16) and instead soften our hearts to worship him and cling to him (Deuteronomy 10:21).

Blessings,

sarah
