“The Lord our God has secrets known to no one. We are not accountable for them, but we and our children are accountable forever for all that he has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions."  ~Deuteronomy 29:29

Lord, You alone know the secrets of everything, from this Earth and universe to the reasonings behind the joyful/stressful/fearful circumstances that each of us face today.

The Lord our God has secrets known to no one. (Deuteronomy 29:29).  We can't begin to know or understand all that occurs around us (and in us!) and for some of us that is a stumbling block of faith.  We just can't accept that we don't understand or comprehend how things work, or why they worked-out that way.

We can apply this "frustration" of " secrets known to no one" to science, one example being "dark matter".  Our 8th grade son came home one day saying they had been taught that scientists cannot explain the previous slowing of gravitational pulls, or the current acceleration of it today and how they perfectly connect to the sustained balanced existence of our stars, planets, atmosphere and sun.  "Science" has dubbed the forces that keep it all in motion "dark matter".  Christians have a different "theory" on how the universe maintains it's balance...God!

I understand that the main disconnect comes in that our human minds want to know the secret...to everything.  And God says, "No".  The Lord our God has secrets known to no one. (Deuteronomy 29:29).

Like a spoiled child tuning out a parent when they don't get their way, people have snubbed their noses at God for generations simply because they didn't understand His secrets (which is another way of describing the word "faith".)  When we don't get what God is doing and yet we follow Him and choose to serve Him anyway: that is faith.  God has secrets known to no one in creation/nature/the universe, and we can have faith that God knows what He's doing, or we can make up our own backstories and tall tales and dub them "dark matter".  Which takes more faith?

And on a more personal (secrets known to no one) level, why (God) are we in the middle of this emotional war with someone else?  Why (God) does it seem like we are always having to take the high road, while "they" take verbal swipes and attempt character assassinations on us?  The Lord our God has secrets known to no one (Deuteronomy 29:29), and that includes His secret and perfect knowledge and purpose for the thorns in our sides.  Why we have the difficult situations and people are secrets known to no one except God, but will we serve Him anyway?  That is faith and those situations are how He refines and grows our faith.

We can't explain the science of Creation or the reasoning for our trials, but that was never our assignment.  We are not accountable for them...

We are not accountable for them, but we and our children are accountable forever for all that he has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions."  ~Deuteronomy 29:29

Don't miss it!  We are on the wrong track if we are spending our energy and influence trying to justify or rationalize God and His Works.  We are on the right track and we will be held accountable for(!) all that he has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions.

What have we experienced in our relationship with Jesus?  How has He changed our lives?  What truths has He revealed to us about Himself and the ways that He wants us to live?  What truths has He revealed about us?

Soak up the weight of this verse.  All of the "facts and figures" of Creation and Bible history: We are not accountable for.  Matching a Bible verse, complete with Book and Chapter reference to every conversation or prayer request that we encounter: We are not accountable for.

But what we are accountable for becomes important if we call ourselves Christ-followers, and I pray that we do.  We and our children are accountable forever for all that he has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions." (Deuteronomy 29:29).

"We and our children" can be biologically interpreted, but anyone (young or old) that we have influence upon is a "child" to us and "parents" have a strong privilege and responsibility of teaching all that he has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions.  What "children" will we be held accountable for influencing for Christ today?

"All that he has revealed to us" is our life experience in faith.  When we walked through the fire but He did not allow us to get burned...When He blessed us...When He disciplined us.  These are all things that he has revealed to us.

He has also revealed His Word to us.  The revelations or correlations that we have had when reading the Bible and applying it to our lives: this is a big part of all that he has revealed to us.

We are not going to be able to explain it all.  There will be "dark matter" (unexplainable stuff) in the world and universe and in our personal-daily-world and within our universe-of-self.

But we were never meant to explain it all or be accountable for them.

Today, let's let the need-to-know escape us, and let faith in God and His ways bring us freedom.

There will be dark matter in our lives, but God knows all of the secrets, and (relax!) we are not accountable for them.

Blessings,

sarah
