We visited the Grand Canyon.

Rock. Strong. Majestic. Silent. Powerful. Beautiful. Breathtaking. Decades/centuries, eons old. Countless eyes and hearts have melted when standing in the presence before it. Around before we all got here and still standing firm long after we're all gone.

It is no wonder that our God compares Himself to rock.

“Take to heart all the words of warning I have given you today. Pass them on as a command to your children so they will obey every word of these instructions. (47) These instructions are not empty words—they are your life! By obeying them you will enjoy a long life in the land you will occupy when you cross the Jordan River.” ~Deuteronomy 32:46-47

In Moses' last speech to the Israelites, after leading them for 40 years, God gives him a "song" to teach to the Israelites, narrating their physical and spiritual "journey" with God through the wilderness and toward the Promised Land.

Their journey was very similar to the one we walk today.  They saw God's miraculous works sometimes and they turned their faces away from God and saw only themselves sometimes.  But throughout their faith journey, and throughout ours, God is unchanging.  God is strong. Majestic. Silent. Powerful. Beautiful. Breathtaking. Decades/centuries, eons old. Countless eyes and hearts have melted when standing in His presence before Him. Around before we got here and still standing firm long after we're gone. God is our Rock.

“Listen, O heavens, and I will speak!  Hear, O earth, the words that I say!

(2) Let my teaching fall on you like rain; let my speech settle like dew.  Let my words fall like rain on tender grass, like gentle showers on young plants.

(3) I will proclaim the name of the Lord; how glorious is our God!

(4) He is the Rock; his deeds are perfect.  Everything he does is just and fair.  He is a faithful God who does no wrong; how just and upright he is!  ~Deuteronomy 32:1-4

Lord, we praise You that we can depend on You. Unshakable and trust-worthy, You are glorious and You are our Rock. Let us trust You today. Let us lean on You today. Let us build our thoughts, our reactions and our lives upon the solid foundation of You, our Rock, today. Amen.

“But Israel soon became fat and unruly; the people grew heavy, plump, and stuffed!  Then they abandoned the God who had made them; they made light of the Rock of their salvation.

(16) They stirred up his jealousy by worshiping foreign gods; they provoked his fury with detestable deeds.

(17) They offered sacrifices...to gods they had not known before, to new gods only recently arrived, to gods their ancestors had never feared.

(18) You neglected the Rock who had fathered you; you forgot the God who had given you birth. ~Deuteronomy 32:15-18

Holy Father, we submit our adulterous hearts to You today. Forgive our selfishness and self-gratification that misguides and derails our trek toward You. Remove our desire to reap rewards from this world instead of treasures from Your trove. We come before You inadequate and guilty. Forgive us, Father for neglecting the Rock who fathered us, and draw us back into Your open arms. Envelope us in your grace and mercy. Amen.

But the rock of our enemies is not like our Rock, as even they recognize.  ~Deuteronomy 32:31

There is no god like our God, as even "they" realize. (You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder. ~James 2:19.)

Whether people, "demons", or even our own hearts are fluctuating between the sides of light and dark today, there is no question of Who is in dominion over all of it.

Our Lord is different.  He is all-powerful and all-mighty.  He is all-knowing and open to all who seek Him.

“Indeed, the Lord will give justice to his people, and he will change his mind about his servants, when he sees their strength is gone and no one is left, slave or free.

(37) Then he will ask, ‘Where are their gods, the rocks they fled to for refuge?

(38)  Where now are those gods...  Let those gods arise and help you!  Let them provide you with shelter!

(39) Look now; I myself am he!  There is no other god but me! ~Deuteronomy 32:36-39

God will never force Himself upon us.

But when we finally come to the end of ourselves... When we are sick and tired of being sick and tired...(when our strength is gone)...

When it finally "clicks" that all of the world's "gods" that we fled to for refuge never provided it...

When our ego's have been battered and tricked and misled by our own selfish-desires for long enough and we are finally and truly seeking shelter...

Look now; I myself am he!  There is no other god but me! ~Deuteronomy 32:39

We have a stable, immovable, unchanging, loving, forgiving Father. He is a solid Rock foundation for our lives. And He has been waiting for us to realize Him. There is no other god but me! (Deuteronomy 32:39).

Let us stand awestruck and filled-with-wonder before Him today.

He is the Rock; his deeds are perfect.  Everything he does is just and fair.  He is a faithful God who does no wrong; how just and upright he is!  ~Deuteronomy 32:4

Strong. Majestic. Silent. Powerful. Beautiful. Breathtaking. Decades/centuries, eons old. Countless eyes and hearts have melted when standing in His presence.

It is no wonder that God compares Himself to rock.
