Yikes! We are being "cultivated"!

Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines "cultivate" as: "to prepare and use" (for the raising of crops)/  "to loosen or break up the soil about" (growing plants)/  or "to foster the growth of".

I hesitate to compare God's people to "dirt", but I can't deny what the Lord is doing with/to/through His people today (and since the dawn of Creation).

And I also can't deny the times recently when I have felt like a pile of dirt, being trampled under the pressures and influences of the world today.  But we must remember (and be encouraged by) the fact that God's cultivation produces growth.

Raise your hand if you feel that God is searching for/raising up/and calling upon us as His children to be "prepared and used"--not for the "raising of crops", but for the "raising of believers" in His Name and to introduce more Christ-followers into His Kingdom.

Ouch!  I feel His cultivation, do you?

And maybe we feel His "cultivation" in a different sense sometimes, like when we can barely raise our heads, let alone a hand because the "soil" of our heart and life have been "loosened and broken up" by such "cultivation".  But don't lose heart!  God defined "cultivation" long before Merriam-Webster did, and by "loosening and breaking up" our spiritual-soil, God is "fostering the growth of" our faith in Him and His purposes.

It sounds poetic, doesn't it?  But it can make us feel pathetic in our low places.

But, even so, in Your Name and for Your glory, Lord: bring our cultivation.  Amen.

What joy for those you choose to bring near, those who live in your holy courts.

What festivities await us inside your holy Temple.

You faithfully answer our prayers with awesome deeds, O God our savior.

You are the hope of everyone on earth, even those who sail on distant seas. ~Psalm 65:4-5

Lord, bring us near today.  As You cultivate us, You also bless those You choose.  Grant us the strength to persevere through today's trials, and  to praise You for hearing and answering our prayers.  Even when we feel set-adrift on distant seas, there is no one like You, Lord.  You are the hope of everyone on earth, and You provide our hope today.  Amen.

You formed the mountains by your power and armed yourself with mighty strength.

You quieted the raging oceans with their pounding waves and silenced the shouting of the nations.   ~Psalm 65:6-7

Gracious Lord, You know the mountains that tower over us and the raging oceans that pound us.  You placed some of them there specifically to draw us nearer to You.  Quiet us today and silence the shouting within us and within our Nation.  Amen.

Those who live at the ends of the earth stand in awe of your wonders.  From where the sun rises to where it sets, you inspire shouts of joy.

You take care of the earth and water it, making it rich and fertile.  The river of God has plenty of water; it provides a bountiful harvest of grain, for you have ordered it so.

10 You drench the plowed ground with rain, melting the clods and leveling the ridges.  You soften the earth with showers and bless its abundant crops.  ~Psalm 65:8-10

Almighty King, just as You drench and water the earth for it's rejuvenation and further production, You do the same for us.  Periods of "rain" and even storms in our lives have purpose and meaning.  Make our spiritual lives rich and our service for you fertileMelt our clods and level our ridges.  Lord Jesus, in obedience to you we seek Your cultivation.  Soften us with your showers and bless us.  Amen.

If our personal/emotional/spiritual soil is being loosened or broken up lately, don't give up!  We can dig our roots deeper into the truth that the Lord is cultivating us to foster the growth of His Kingdom.

Even so, in Your Name and for Your glory, Lord: bring our cultivation today.  Amen.

Blessings,

sarah
