After that, he taught daily in the Temple, but the leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the other leaders of the people began planning how to kill him. (48) But they could think of nothing, because all the people hung on every word he said. ~Luke 19:47-48

hung on every word he said...

I think that sums up...me. And I pray that would sum up You. That we would hang on every word Jesus said.

Those that followed Jesus then were affected by His words. If we choose to follow Jesus now, we will be affected by His words.

The people who heard Jesus teach then wanted to learn more from Him/hear more from Him/and to be in His presence. I pray the very same thing is true of us today when we hear or read the teachings of Jesus...and that we will hang on every word.

You can't "hang" on something that doesn't have a foundation, or that is not stable, strong or trusted. But the words of Jesus and His Father are all of those things for us: they are our Foundation, they are stable, strong and trusted. We can absolutely hang on every word he said, and many times and in critical situations, I have.

When we are overwhelmed, we can open the Bible and hang on every word he said. (Luke 19:48)

When we are sad, we can open the Bible and hang on every word he said. (Luke 19:48)

When we are scared, anxious, angry, or broken, we can open the Bible and hang on every word he said. (Luke 19:48)

When we are elated, joy-filled and content, we can open the Bible and hang on every word he said. (Luke 19:48)

Whatever our circumstance, mood, dilemma or triumph--God has a word for us to hang on to while we are navigating it.

There are 66 Books in the Bible and we can hang on every word he said in each of them. Some beauties include:

“Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you."  ~Matthew 7:12

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”  ~John 16:33

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (17) For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.  ~John 3:16-17

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  ~Romans 10:9

Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.  ~Matthew 28:19

Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something done for the Lord and not for people... ~Colossians 3:23

If God is for us, who can be against us? (32) He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?... (33) Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. (34) Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. (35) Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?...  (37) No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. (38) For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, (39) neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.  ~Romans 8: 31-35, 37-39

What if today we hung on every word he said? (Luke 19:48)

What if today we could introduce someone to Jesus and His life-giving Word and they hung on every word he said? (Luke 19:48)

What if more people hung on every word he said? (Luke 19:48)

...But they could think of nothing, because all the people hung on every word he said. ~Luke 19:48

What if all the people hung on every word he said? (Luke 19:48)

God's Word. The Bible. The B-I-B-L-E, as many of us were taught at a young age and in a sing-song tone. But there is nothing childish about the truths and the hope that we find in these pages. Yes, that's the Book for me. I stand alone on the Word of God, the B-I-B-L-E.

And today, we can hang on every word he said. (Luke 19:48)
