Maybe it's the change of Seasons, maybe it's the workload of mid-semester, maybe it's schedules and responsibilities, maybe it's lack-of-sleep, or the news or the future...but do things seem chaotic to you?

When I read the headlines, the world seems chaotic.

When I talk to family and friends about upcoming holidays their inclinations and expectations are chaotic.

But it's not just "outside" things that seem that way.  It's "inside" stuff too.  Churches seem chaotic, friendships seem chaotic, and half the time the conversations I have with myself are chaotic.

And yet, just as steady as the waves-of-chaos that are battering our world and minds, there is an equal force with repetitive waves that is persisting from my study of the Bible/sermons/and within my spirit: our God is a God of order.

The chaos is not from Him and the chaos is not of Him.  Nothing about God is chaotic, and it never has been.  Nor will our God ever be chaotic.

He establishes order in our world and in our minds today just as He did at the Creation of the world.

The chaos of our world, families, and daily structure is produced when we abandon God's systems of order, which establish, well...order.

God created the world methodically and each piece of Creation, from land and water masses, to plants, animals, and people had an order to them.  In short, God knew what He was doing, because He's God.

I don't think some of us know what we are doing, and hence...chaos.  In our Nation, our world, and in our hearts.

But the God-of-order is readily available to all who seek Him, and the order He provides resides with Him and in Him and in His Word.

If you're feeling "chaotic" today, let Psalm 104 restore God's order to your heart.

Psalm 104

Let all that I am praise the Lord.  Lord my God, how great you are!
You are robed with honor and majesty.
 You are dressed in a robe of light.  You stretch out the starry curtain of the heavens;
you lay out the rafters of your home in the rain clouds.
You make the clouds your chariot; you ride upon the wings of the wind. ~Psalm 104:1-3

Lord, may we never forget Who You are or how great you are.  Replace our chaos with Your order.  Do not let our circumstances or outside influences cloud our awareness of WHO YOU ARE and  Let all that I am praise the Lord.  Amen.

You placed the world on its foundation so it would never be moved.
Mountains rose and valleys sank to the levels you decreed.
Then you set a firm boundary for the seas, so they would never again cover the earth.

10 You make springs pour water into the ravines, so streams gush down from the mountains.
13 You send rain on the mountains from your heavenly home, and you fill the earth with the fruit of your labor.
14 You cause grass to grow for the livestock and plants for people to use.  You allow them to produce food from the earth—
19 You made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to set.

20 You send the darkness, and it becomes night, when all the forest animals prowl about.
21 Then the young lions roar for their prey, stalking the food provided by God.
22 At dawn they slink back into their dens to rest.

23 Then people go off to their work, where they labor until evening.

24 Lord, what a variety of things you have made!  In wisdom you have made them all.
25 Here is the ocean, vast and wide, teeming with life of every kind, both large and small.

27 They all depend on you...

31 May the glory of the Lord continue forever!  The Lord takes pleasure in all he has made!

33 I will sing to the Lord as long as I live.  I will praise my God to my last breath!
34 May all my thoughts be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the
Lord.
35 Let all sinners vanish from the face of the earth; let the wicked disappear forever.

Let all that I am praise the Lord.  Praise the Lord!  ~Psalm 104:5, 8-10, 13-14, 19-25, 27, 31, 33-35

Every piece of what God did from the Beginning had order.  He established order through His Creation process, and once He created things (land/water/plants/animals, etc), then He gave order to their processes.  Water flow (You make springs pour water into the ravines, so streams gush down from the mountains  ~Psalm 1-4:10), seasons and days (You made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to set...  ~Psalm 104:19), and even our days (Then people go off to their work, where they labor until evening. ~Psalm 104:23).

You thought of it all, Lord, and You gave order to it all.

You gave order to us and whenever the "chaos" rises or even "sets in", we can step back and rest in Your order.

There is peace in remembering that our God is a God of order.  The evidence of His order brings peace to our chaos.

Have we taken in a sunset or the beauty of the stars lately (You stretch out the starry curtain of the heavens.  ~Psalm 104:2)?  The order and existence of these things is calming.  God did that and God made us.  Not to live in a state of mental or spiritual chaos, but to abide in Him and the order that He provides when we allow Him to govern the order of our lives.

If we have been in chaos...today the God-of-order is readily available to all who seek Him and (even in the chaos), He is able to be found.

The chaos is not from Him and the chaos is not of Him.

But we are from Him and we are children of Him.  Relax in the order of Him today.

Lord my God, how great you are!  ~Psalm 104:1
