There is an expectation in our hearts today.  There is a weariness too.  It's been a year.  A couple years, actually.  A couple long years.  A couple fearful years.  A couple previously unimaginable years. A couple dividing years.  A couple life-changing years.

But worry, what-if's, division, and fear should not be what define our years, nor our hearts.  Man-kind has always had questions and struggles, but we also have always had the Answer and Hope.

God created the world with order and meaning and He sent His Son to live and then (even) die for us, and for our peace. God's purpose was to bring peace and hope to our chaos. (“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble.  But take heart! I have overcome the world.”  ~John 16:33).

Today we wait in expectation for a new Year and what's next, just as so many have before us

In 1744 Charles Wesley wrote a song of seeking, expecting and hoping, and although time has passed, our yearnings have stayed the same:

Come, Thou long expected Jesus        ~By Charles Wesley

Come, Thou long expected Jesus/ Born to set Thy people free;

From our fears and sins release us, Let us find our rest in Thee.

Israel's strength and consolation,  Hope of all the earth Thou art;

Dear desire of every nation, Joy of every longing heart.

Born Thy people to deliver, Born a child and yet a King,

Born to reign in us forever, Now Thy gracious kingdom bring.

By Thine own eternal Spirit Rule in all our hearts alone;

By Thine all sufficient merit, Raise us to Thy glorious throne.

2022 will come as each year before it has. We cannot stop time, and why would we? We do not know what the New Year holds, but we can know the One who holds the New Year, and we can trust Him for peace within it. And God's word says that we can trust Him for much more than that in the New Year. He has much in store for us, if we will tap into Him and His Holy Spirit which lives within us and guides us as we enter 2022 and today: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things (Galatians 5:22-23).

There are more and more laws against many things, but what God promises cannot be withheld from us.  Tap into Him and His promises for us in 2022.

From our fears and sins release us, Let us find our rest in Thee. (Charles Wesley).

Blessings,
