The Lord is with us today...that is a given, and it is certain.

It is not a question of whether we have been "good enough" to earn God's favor.  (He never said we had to.)  It is merely a question of whether we have invited Him into our hearts and lives and professed Him as our Savior.  (If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (10) For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.  ~Romans 10:9-10).

That's the catalyst of our relationship with God and His Son, Jesus.  But once we have declared and believed, then it's go time, and it's time to speak.

God chose us to be in His family.  (Is it not my family God has chosen?  ~2 Samuel 23:5).  We are special to God, but before we get on our high horses, know that all people are special to God, not just us.  God "chooses" everyone (The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.  ~2 Peter 3:9)...but not everyone chooses God.

But if we are drawn to His Word and we hunger for His ways...we are chosen and, Yes, he has made an everlasting covenant with us. (2 Samuel 23:5)

Some of us need the reminder/the reassurance/and the hope that God has accepted us, and that we are worthy to be in His service.  Remember (or realize/accept for the first time!) that God chose us to be in His family, and he has made an everlasting covenant (agreement or promise) with us.  (“Is it not my family God has chosen?  Yes, he has made an everlasting covenant with me.  His agreement is arranged and guaranteed in every detail.  He will ensure my safety and success.  ~2 Samuel 23:5)

Allow these words from the Bible to coat your insecurity and to cover your shame: God sees through all of that, and He knows our potential--because He embedded it within us: Yes, he has made an everlasting covenant with us.

So...God has chosen us.  If we choose Him, then we must be moved/motivated/bold-enough to speak for Him.  To share His word with others.  To proclaim His presence in our lives and the difference He makes in our attitude, our hope, and our heart.

(2) “The Spirit of the Lord speaks through me; his words are upon my tongue.  ~2 Samuel 23:2

Speak for Him.  Not in pride, not in condescension, but in life-giving testimony--may his words be upon our tongues.  May the Spirit of the Lord speak through us today.

(3) The God of Israel spoke.  The Rock of Israel said to me: ‘The one who rules righteously, who rules in the fear of God, (4) is like the light of morning at sunrise, like a morning without clouds, like the gleaming of the sun on new grass after rain.’  ~2 Samuel 23:3-4

Can these things be said of us?

God says that they could be if we will allow Him to speak through us, and to rule us.  The one who rules righteously, who rules in the fear of God...

is like the light of morning at sunrise (special, untouched, awe-filled)

like a morning without clouds, (hopeful, crisp, promising)

like the gleaming of the sun on new grass after rain. (reflecting Him, radiant, inviting)  ~2 Samuel 23:3-4

God has chosen us.  We are in His family.  Are we allowing Him to speak through us?  Can we be said to reflect these beautiful things (light of morning at sunrise, a morning without clouds, the gleaming of the sun on new grass after rain) because of God's spirit within us?

And are his words upon our tongue (2 Samuel 23:2) because of it?

Be led to allow the Lord to speak through you today.  That's our end of the bargain.

Yes, he has made an everlasting covenant with us, and His agreement is arranged and guaranteed in every detail.  He will ensure our safety and success. (2 Samuel 23:5).  That's His end of the bargain.

The God of Israel, the Rock of Israel has spoken these things to us.

Today may we allow the Spirit of the Lord to speak through us, and his words to be upon our tongue.
