What are we seeing?

I'm sure I don't know, but we should (at least) be aware of what we are looking for.

All of the events/trends/changes in the world and in people are hard to define today.  But what if they have already been pre-defined by the Bible?

  • People turning away from church and the Lord after years of following Him.
  • People passionately turning to the church and the Lord, after being lukewarm in their faith or even unbelieving previously.
  • Children taking an active role in sharing the Gospel.
  • Young men and women worried about their future and hopeless.
  • Young men and women emboldened and "seeing" their callings to be used for God tomorrow and today.
  • Those wise in years and in faith interpreting the times and the Bible as intersecting.
  • People (in all classes of society) sharing their faith like never before: in conversation, at work, in school, in bondage, in life.  Churches becoming bolder and more urgent about sharing the Gospel.
  • Natural wonders.
  • Natural disasters.
  • The anxiety of the unknown.
  • The relief of God's promised salvation.

What are we seeing as we look around our lives and the world today?

The apostle Peter outlines what "the last days" will look like, as predicted long ago by the prophet Joel (Acts 2:16).

What are we seeing?  I'm sure I don't know, but we should (at least) be aware of what we are looking for.

‘In the last days,’ God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people.  Your sons and daughters will prophesy.  Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.  (18) In those days I will pour out my Spirit even on my servants—men and women alike—and they will prophesy.

(19) And I will cause wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below—blood and fire and clouds of smoke.

(20) The sun will become dark, and the moon will turn blood red before that great and glorious day of the Lord arrives.

(21) But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’  ~Acts 2:17-21

I'm not sure exactly what all of this means (is anyone?), but we should (at least) be aware of what we are looking for.

If "today" we are seeing our sons and daughters prophesy (to speak as if divinely inspired/to give instruction in religious matters, Merriam Webster Dictionary)...then pay attention.

If today any of your young men are seeing visions, or our old men are dreaming dreams......then tune in.

(God repeats this, so it bears repeating)--If today, we (men and women alike) feel God's Spirit being poured out (even on us!) His servants, then it's time to prophesy (to speak as if divinely inspired/to give instruction in religious matters).  In conversation, at work, in school, in bondage, in life...get bold!

All of the events/trends/changes in the world and in people are hard to define today.  But what if they have already been pre-defined by the Bible?

  • People turning away from church and the Lord after years of following Him.
  • God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. (Acts 2:17) - People passionately turning to the church and the Lord, after being lukewarm in their faith or even unbelieving previously.
  •  Your sons and daughters will prophesy. (Acts 2:7) - Children taking an active role in sharing the Gospel.
  • Young men and women worried about their future and hopeless.
  • Your young men will see visions. (Acts 2:17) - Young men and women emboldened and "seeing" their callings to be used for God tomorrow and today.
  •  Your old men will dream dreams. (Acts 2:17) - Those wise in years and in faith interpreting the times and the Bible as intersecting.
  • I will pour out my Spirit even on my servants—men and women alike—and they will prophesy. (Acts 2:18) - People (in all classes of society) sharing their faith (speaking as if divinely inspired/giving instruction in religious matters) like never before: in conversation, at work, in school, in bondage, in life.  Churches becoming bolder and more urgent about sharing the Gospel.
  • And I will cause wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below—blood and fire and clouds of smoke. (Acts 2:18) - Natural wonders and natural disasters.
  • The anxiety of the unknown.
  • But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. (Acts 2:21) - The relief of God's salvation.

I'm not sure exactly what we are seeing in the world and in ourselves today.

I am not intelligent-enough or spiritually-gifted-enough to have such insight.  But by-God's-Word, we are now informed-enough of what we are to be looking for.

And regardless of whether "the last days" are rolling out now or in thousands of years (Joel wrote about the prediction of them that long ago), the (happy) ending never changes: But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved (Acts 2:21).

That has already been pre-defined too.

Blessings,

Sarah
